Last year, I sung the praises of a small chocolatier, Chuao, for its unique and delicious flavor combinations, like strawberry balsamic and spicy Cabernet caramel. I had a chance to try their newest bar, the Firecracker, and it was no exception. The chocolate smelled typical enough — bittersweet and slightly smoky. But once I took a bite, my experience took a turn for the bizarre. First, I tasted creamy dark chocolate then gradually intensifying heat and a tingly, burning sensation in the back of my throat. And all of a sudden, out of nowhere, loud crackling and popping, at which point I realized there was not only an explosion of flavor, but also a physical explosion of some kind. To find out what the cracker of the Firecracker was, read more.
Turns out the appropriately-named chocolate bar is made of dark chocolate, enrobed in chipotle chiles, salt, and popping candy — the kind I loved in the third grade. I can only liken the bizarre, oddly addictive experience to going on a roller coaster for the first time and wanting to go again. For those of you who are game (it is not for the unadventurous eater or faint of heart), I encourage you to go for a ride. Does spicy chocolate with popping candy sound like something you'd want to try?

Sign me up! That sounds phenomenal.
Oh yeah, I saw something on TV about this particular chocolate. I can see myself trying that in the future.
Hmm... never heard of that. Pops like pop rocks?... um. Sounded good right up to that... I do love exotic dark chocolates.
I've had a different kind of pop rocks chocolate bar, but it wasn't spicy! I always love when things that aren't traditionally hot or spicy are given a kick, sounds delicious!
ooooooh yes me too. But is it vegan?
buchababy, sadly it is not! It has milk and soy in it.
i dont think i would :S
hahaha sounds interesting. i know they have a chocolate/pop rocks bar in israel. it's amazing! but i can't find it in the states yet though.
Would I? I am grabbing my wallet and running out the door now!
I'm in!
I love chocolate, but this might be a bit much for me
this sounds so good!! I would even try it and I hate dark chocolate! I gotta get one of these for my grandparents to tey, they both adore dark chocolate and would adore this!
There used to be a limited edition ice cream flavor years ago that was chocolate with pop rocks (I forget the brand). It was absolutely FABULOUS! My sister hated it because she has pop rocks issues, but I LOVED it and am so sorry I can't get it anymore!
But THIS just might be the replacement I was looking for!
hmm i don't know, I used to work at Lindt chocolate and we sold a chili chocolate bar that was a little much so its not the poprocks as much as the spice I don't think I could handle
sounds yummy
ohh this sounds interesting. Not something I would eat on a reg basis but worth a try!
I'd buy some! I love spiced chocolate. There's even some with cajun and hot curry spices. Plus I loved pop rocks as a kid!
The Firecracker...What a Blast of flavor! I found this amazingly crazy good candybar @ Wal-mart of all places. It's absolutely fantastic! Don't let the chipotle ingredient scare you...It's nothing like the Lindt Chili Chocolate bar...this one is very smooth and the flavors all blend together nicely...all slightly noticeable, but very well paired. It's a little pricey, but well worth the money! I'm definately going to buy more to share with my other chocoholic friends! I'd give it 5 stars! YUM!
I love it... the flavors are amazingly melded together.. ALL should try it!
This stuff is amazing - it's a texture, taste, sound, flavor explosion. When you let a small piece melt in your mouth, you get a creamy melty dark chocolate burst, then the heat starts up at the back of your throat, then the crackling begins and your mouth is alive and tingly. Once almost melted the chewing begins and then it's crunchy with little bursts of salt here and there. I highly recommend it.
