In Cedar Rapids, IA, one woman got her Halloween trick several weeks early when she found a bat in her coffee.
The woman reported a bat in her house but wasn't too concerned about it. She then turned on her automatic coffeemaker before bedtime and enjoyed her coffee the next morning. When she cleaned out her coffee machine that night, she discovered the dead bat in the coffee filter. The bat was sent to a laboratory to be tested, where researchers determined its brain was too cooked by the hot water for them to determine whether it was rabid. The woman is currently undergoing treatment for possible rabies.
I've heard some food scenarios that are even more disgusting, but this one tops the list of strange occurrences! Does this remind you of any bizarre food experiences that you've had?

she should have bought debatinated coffee. ba dum dum
but seriously thats gross, did it lift the lid of the coffee maker with its tiny wing and decide to take a nap? or was it actually in the coffee she poured?
1Sorry about that.
2How do you miss that in your coffee filter?? Was she blind as a bat? Sorry, it's caterpillargirl's fault- I couldn't resist
3Forget disgusting, it's sad! How did she miss closing a bat in her coffee maker? Poor little thing.
4holy toledo batman!!!!
....poor lady...
5CaterpillarGirl and macgirl,
This is just bat sh*t crazy!
6I'm thinking the rabies virus isn't stable enough to handle such heat. Either way, good she's getting treated!
7CaterpillarGirl and MacGirl Bat-a-bing!
Seriously though, poor little bat!
8I am always surprised at how ignorant and inhumane people are. This woman should have carefully relocated the bat to a safe place in her yard - using gloves so as not to risk contact with rabies - or call a bat rehabber rather than going on her merry way.
Bats are an important factor in the control of insects and in pollination of plants. And they are super cute!
Great bat information is available here: http://www.batworld.org/
9Seriously? Did you not read the story. It was too late to relocate him. I think the most shocking thing about this story is how did it get into her coffee pot and how did she not notice it getting in there.
10omg - i don't know what i would have done if i were her. t hat's just INSANE!!! wow - umm....i'm kind of grossed out and i hope that she's doing ok now that she knows what was in her coffee.. question is - how did it get into her coffee filter/pot?
11Did the coffee not taste funny? I don't get it.
Poor little guy though
12eww..
13That's horrifying!
LMAO @ the bat jokes, though
14lol at the bat jokes.
15Ewww, that's gross! I'm guessing the bat crawled into the grounds sometime during the night, after she had gone to bed?? Maybe seeking someplace warm and dark and cozy like a cave? Maybe the earthy smells of the coffee lured it in? If it was on a timer, the coffee pot wouldn't have turned on until the morning, when poor batty was sleeping.
Bluesarahlou, cute icon! I have a guinea pig who looks just like that
16Oh yuck. That's all I can say.
17Blech, no me gusta.
18NASTY!
19She probably preps her coffee at night so she can assemble it in the morning. My mom does that. Fortunately, she's never had bat with her coffee.
20Thanks suzi! I love this picture
21Awww, I feel bad for it. And yeah, how do you miss a bat in your coffee pot? It's not like they're super small or anything.
