The other day while at the farmers market, I came across these bags of spring mix with edible flowers. Because I grew up with the mantra that it's healthy to "eat the colors of the rainbow," the flowers' vibrant hues were enticing to my palate. I'm an adventurous eater, but I could imagine a picky eater not being too fond of the idea. Have you ever tried edible flowers?

i'm on the fence about this one. i know that there are some flowers that are good for you and ok to eat, but i don't know if i could talk myself into eating them. i have this mental block where i think that flowers are for decoration rather than for nourishment, even if i do know better.
Those look delicious.
Nasturtiums, which I assume would be in a mix like this, have a lovely peppery sweet taste. They are really the perfect compliment to salad, I wish they were included more often.
Why not...
I've had salad with flowers in it. I thought it was okay. Not great, but I'm not a big fan of salad (I'm really picky about the ingredients and I don't like anything that "tastes like weeds"). It does LOOK really pretty, though, and that makes it a real pleasure to eat, even if I didn't personally enjoy the flavour that much. Sometimes a feast for the eyes can be almost as good as a feast for the taste buds.
Aww, this reminds me of "Because I Said So" when Milly lets Lionel eat the flowers. That's all.
I'd give it a try. Most salad greens look like leaves to me anyway so I don't see a huge difference.
Totally. I always see the little packages of edible flowers at the grocery store and want to buy them.
This is so pretty! I would definitely try it.
why not?...i'd toss it with some dressing..and down the hatch it go!
Yes! As a matter of fact, I purchased those bags from that same farmers market a couple of weeks ago. I made an avocado red onion salad with the mix and it was like one of the best salads ever!
no, because i've had edible flowers, and i always find them to be exceedingly bitter. they may be edible, but i certainly don't think they taste very good.
I don't care if it's a flower! I'll eat anything if it tastes good, and that would certainly look gorgeous on the table!
I'm with exyank! I've actually never had them before, but even if they're not incredibly flavorful, sometimes they can be a feast to the eyes!
I have seen this at the farmers' market too. It's intriguing, and I'm sure I wouldn't hate it, but I don't think it would add much to my salad eating experiences except prettiness. I do like zucchini flowers but mostly when they are battered and fried.
No thanks. Flowers belong in pots, not in my salad.
I think it's too pretty to eat!
Yes! I'm a sucker for picking out eye-catching foods at the farmer's market.
I've had them before at a restaurant, but in all honesty they weren't super flavorful. I'd eat again if already in the salad mixture, but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy them.
if someone offered me some, sure, why not. but i wouldn't go out of my way to buy a bag. the colors are sure attractive though.
I'd try it. I've never had edible flowers but I'm curious about them and I'd be willing to try. The mix sure is beautiful.
I wish I could buy edible flowers, but I don't think I've seen them in my area.
I am too concerned with the pesticides they use to just put regular flowers in a salad...
I'd be willing to eat it, but if they are sweet, I probably wouldn't end up liking it. I am one of the few people with a real aversion to sugar and sweet-tasting food.
...if I was a rabbit.
I've tried it before. It actually tastes really bad. The texture is really gritty and just the thought of eating flowers while your eating it makes you sick.
I've gotten this at the Fillmore SF farmer's market, and it was delicious! Such a fresh taste.
They almost look too pretty to eat
But I would give them a shot, why not?
I've wanted to try them for years
This past summer I wanted to grow dandelions because I heard you can make salad from them
I am a generally picky eater but salad items tend not to scare me (it's more of a no fish or seafood kinda thing) and those look yummy I would definitely be willing to try them!
Why not? They are pretty, and if they are edible I think it would be neat to try.
They look delicious. I wish I could find an arrangement ... err salad like that around here!
I've always loved flowers in my salad. Its a tradition for Easter with my family. And we've always had fried zucchini blossoms. So delish!
