Animal-rights activism group PETA has come out with yet another inflammatory campaign. This year, they kicked their off Halloween festivities a few weeks early: On Saturday, more than 100 people gathered outside a Herald Square KFC dressed as blood-drenched zombies, holding signs that said, "I'd rather be dead than eat at KFC!"
The protest was part of the Kentucky Fried Cruelty campaign, which addresses concerns about KFC suppliers' treatment of chickens on farms and slaughterhouses. "Even flesh-eating zombies have nothing on the Colonel's cruelty," says PETA's Dan Shannon. "We're urging consumers not to set foot inside a KFC restaurant until the company stops these abuses."
Did any of you see the protest? Do you consider it to be effective at sending an important message, or is it just another obnoxious PETA ploy?

I find it hard to criticize anything that is driven by the intention to end animal cruelty.
1i must have missed this one - but i'm about 3 blocks east of there so that's no surprise.
i can understand the position that PETA takes on all these animal rights things, but i've learned over the years that you're going to be more successful when you're peaceful about things rather than using tactics like this.
i'm a veggie so i'm not really affected by this - and i value what they are trying to do - to be honest, i don't think that this will really change anyone's eating/buying habits.

6PETA used to have a good point. Now they are just as bad as the people they attack. Of course animal rights is a worthy cause, but you are never going to make a difference with radicalism that becomes ridiculous.

I completely agree with HLHArts. They have an excellent cause. I just don't know that the way they go about it is productive.
10I've never eaten at KFC. I don't eat fast food in general. I'm not a vegetarian by any stretch of the imagination. I am all for protecting animals against cruelty but in all seriousness a ZOMBIE PROTEST!?! Give me a damn break. They need to fire the idiot who came up with that stunt.
Anyone ever see the episode of B.S. about PETA? SO freaking good. I don't trust PETA in the least.

12I love Zombies. Peta's campaign aside, I wish here was an annual zombie parade in San Francisco, maybe I'll organize one.
13PETA only seem to know how to make a point by being so obnoxious and histrionic that people just say things like, "What a bunch of freaks," and ignore them completely. It doesn't matter how good your cause is or how valid your point is, if you deliver it in a way that makes people believe you're crackpots, your message is lost. It's unfortunate that PETA don't understand this.
14the zombie thing doesn't seem terribly relevant, and I agree with the others above me...once you become such a spectacle, your point (while noble) begins to lose its validity. And now I am lusting for some KFC mashed potatoes. Bad.

18I don't like KFC at all. The phone is very processed. I saw the videos that PETA found out of KFC's slaughterhouses and ever since then I've been scared for life.
19A little extreme, but far from PETA's worst. KFC is horrible and cruelty-filled, and I think most omnivores would care to know how awful the factory farms that supply KFC are. You may not be interested in going veggie, but most people aren't interested in being deliberately cruel to chickens.
