You've heard of the door-to-door Avon lady, and been to Tupperware parties. But have you ever been to a Dove Chocolate party?
Now you can. Two weeks ago, candy giant Mars launched its newest venture, a direct-selling company called Dove Chocolate Discoveries.
The company is targeting women and men who want to start an at-home business to become independent sales consultants. These "chocolatiers" then throw "tasting parties" where they teach friends how to make everything from chocolate martinis to chocolate truffles. The goal? To convince guests to buy chocolate rimmers, cupcake baking kits, and chocolate-covered graham crackers, among other things.
With Halloween around the corner, everyone has candy on the brain, so the prospects could be bright. Sales consultants make at least 25 percent of everything they sell, so it could also be lucrative. What do you think of the concept? Would you buy lots of Mars products at a chocolate party?

I'd attend and probably buy from one of these parties.
25% really isn't that much for a direct-sales business.
1Count me in. What a great idea!
2I think this is a great idea for woman/men who want to work from home, especially if they have a love of chocolate! I'd even consider doing this!
3Dude. GENIUS. This is the first direct-sales company I've ever heard of that I'd actually consider selling myself - and I am SO not a saleswoman. But I love chocolate, and I can get behind a decent chocolate product (it would probably even be kinda fun)... I'd DEFINITELY attend such a party.
4Yumm. Too tempting.
5so much better than jewelry or tupperware!
6I think I would get really fat from all the tasting parties, but it sounds like fun!
7great idea, too bad I don't really like dove chocolate although I like it more than hershey's.
8i love the idea but i don't know if i would really be successful at it. i think that i would have to wait a couple years until i'm in the mom/dad stage that i would have friends around that could participate in this sort of party. it's a cute idea though and i think that it could work.
9Niiice. I love makeup parties, but chocolate parties are better
10oo this is interesting could be very successful if you time it right...namely when your prospective clients are hungriest lol and if you are supplied with great recipes for them to try I love cooking with dove chocolate it holds up much better then hershey's namely it stays smoother where as I find hersheys gets a kinda crust on it I have only ever used them both for a great peanut butter cookie recipe I have though so I'm not sure. I used to work at Lindt chocolate and I find that while people buy some treats for themselves the gift boxes are def the big sellers
11That would be SO much fun!
Where do I sign up?
12I must chime in here. I've experienced a Dove Chocolate Discoveries Chocolate Tasting Party as a guest and now as a Chocolatier. With our versatile product line, we create a unique experience for each of our hostesses. Feel free to ask me questions about this new and fun way to gather with friends.
By the way, our company is young and would love to be the next Avon!
Savor life's best,
