Browsing TeamSugar the other day, I was absolutely taken by a Fall recipe. This apple butter was created by Kitchen Goddess founder, Twinkle, when she wasn't able to locate any apple butter in her adopted homeland, Finland. Since she is a domestic divinity, she took matters into her own hands and came up with an original recipe. I can't get enough of apples, and making apple butter (which doesn't actually include any butter) is the perfect way to use up a surplus of the fruit. Plus, it's a healthy spread alternative to jams and jellies. To get her delicious recipe, read more.

Apple Butter is yet another item you can't find in Finland, so I figured out how to make my own. Makes the house smell amazing too!
Ingredients
5 1/2 pounds apples - peeled, cored and sorta chopped
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt
Directions
Peel, core and chop your apples. Don't worry too much about the chopping part because they will cook down and you can blitz them later with a hand mixer. Toss all the ingredients into a heavy pot or slow cooker. Cover and cook on medium high heat for the first hour. Then turn the heat down to low for 8 to 10 hours. Take the cover off, blitz until smooth and turn the heat back up to medium high for another hour or until most of the liquid is gone. Spoon into jars or freezable containers and pop in the fridge or freezer. Enjoy!
* Makes enough to fill 3 to 4 medium size jars.
Ingredients (minus salt)
Toss it in a pot.
Mix it.
Let it simma down nah.
Blitz it.
Eat it.

Apple butter always makes me think of my hometown - the Amish sell a lot of it.
1if its not made outside in a cooper kettle its not the real stuff.
2I can attest to how amazing this is! Another Team member made some from Twinks recipe and gifted me with it.
3This stuff is soooo good!
4I made this on Sunday. I used a mixture of winesap, braeburn and pink lady apples and it was AMAZING. I'm going to make it again this week because I gifted most of it to my neighbors and I want some for myself!!
5I've been looking for a good apple butter recipe and I think this is it! YUM!
6mmmmmmmnn... i really want some apple butter now.
7this sounds delicious! they'd make good presents too, I imagine!
8I still haven't made it. Well, I was making it last Sunday but then discovered that my hand were highly allergic to raw apples so I stopped. I just need to buy gloves and I'll be able to make it. Can't wait!
9This recipe makes me want to borrow a slow cooker!
10this is a fun recipe. i'd never heard of apple butter before visiting my boyfriend's family out in West Virginia. it's something that they have a lot of, and then my current fiance's family in texas also uses it. i guess it's not one of those things that you get a lot of in the northeast huh?
11I'm from the north east (New Jersey) and I grew up on apple butter. Maybe it's because I grew up near Amish country (Lancaster PA) and we'd go visit at least once a year and pick up things like jars of apple butter. Mmm so good! The apple butter was always my favorite part of the trip.
I'd love to make this, but cooking it for 10 hours gives me pause. Would it work in a slow cooker?
12It will definitely work in a slow cooker. I don't have one so I used a pot instead. Eh, I didn't have anywhere to go anyway.
13Yay, thanks!! I might have to try it this weekend!!
