Next month, number one fast-food giant McDonald's will unveil a redesign of all its food products around the world. In what the corporation calls "the most comprehensive rollout in the brand's history," all 118 countries with McDonald's restaurants will launch new designs that advertise the chain's high-quality ingredients.
The packaging, developed by UK marketing firm Boxer, draws attention to fresh ingredients and preparation: The new Big Mac box includes images of an onion, slices of cheese, a head of lettuce, and a freshly made hamburger, with the words "100 percent beef" and "all-beef patties" inscribed on the box. The containers will hit the US, UK, and Ireland first. Mary Dillon, global chief marketing officer for McDonald's said:
Our new packaging is a fresh way of sharing McDonald's food quality story with our customers. The more people know about our food, the more they'll love it.
What do you think of the new designs? I think they're refreshing, and McDonald's is counting on them to boost its reputation after it will have to break the news to consumers about switching its Double Cheeseburger to a McDouble burger with only one slice of cheese. Do you think the redesign will cast McDonald's in a more health-positive light?

McDonald's will never be healthy, and it'll never be the first choice for health-conscious consumers. That doesn't mean it's not one of my favorite splurges, but still.
1yes, but they're making an effort!
2I'm sorry, I wasn't aware that McDonald's used real cheese on their burgers? Did American cheese slices all of a sudden because "fresh?"
3I haven't had McDonald's in so long because I'm trying to lose weight...
4I have witnessed McDonald's trying to step up the quality of their food ... HOWEVER, they are still just about the most evil empire I can think of next to Coke, Pepsi and the military industrial complex.
Also, I find the "all beef" tag a little weak. I mean, it BETTER be all beef! What the F else would it be? Raccoon? Worms? Melamine?
And, even when we *believe* that the burger IS in fact all beef, that falls short of describing *what parts* of "the beef" that hamburger is. Is it lips and butts? Is it hair and toenails? You never know.
McDonalds -- cheap for a reason.
5McDonald's is kidding themselves if they think a simple repackaging will boost their sales. Crap wrapped in ribbons and shiny paper is still crap. The people who can only afford to eat McDonald's (or for some unfathomable reason, LIKE McDonald's) will eat it no matter what you package it in. It seems like a waste of effort to me.

6At least their redesign is better than Pepsi's.
7The design is fine. It's solid work. But it seems rather blah to me. I don't think I would have noticed the redesign if I hadn't read about it here.
8i actually really really like the concept - but then again i work in advertising so i'm a bit skewed. i have to say that the billboards that hey have for their 'out of home' campaign really are eye catching and i think that this is the next 'right' step for them to be cast in a more positive light.
9forget about listing ingredients, what about nutrition facts? shouldn't people know that they are eating WAY TOO MANY CALORIES in just ONE burger?!?!?
Screw the ingredients, we all know its cr**!!!
10I can't even eat their hamburgers because they literally make me sick. About the only thing I can eat at a McDonald's is their fries.
11Yakmilk,
Will you marry me?
12The new marketing really doesn't affect me. I'll still go to MickeyDee's whenever I feel like it. It's a vice worth living for.
13So what is up with everybody re-designing their logos lately???
14These companys are spending millions of dollars on LOGOS in a recession??? If they are trying to sell more maybe they should stop spending millions on pointless advertising and actually try lowering their prices!
I agree SeptemberLights.
15They lost me at "high-quality ingredients."
I applaud them for steps in the right direction, but they're still a long way from being healthy. Those who read labels and do their homework won't be fooled.
16i'm lost when it comes to mcdonald's. i have not eaten there since i was 18, and i'm now 29. i've only been inside one once. the new packaging wouldn't do anything to sway me to eat it again. actually, my reasons for not eating there had much more to do with "political" reasons than nutritional. sinec it's on something the customer has already bought, perhaps it's just to make the consumer "feel" better.
