I was thrilled last weekend when, while out eating Chinese, I came across a Taiwanese small plate that I enjoyed growing up. It's slivered pig's ears, and it's delicious, with a light soy-sauce flavor and both a gelatinous and crunchy texture.

I've had it, it was totally foul. It was fatty and cartilage-y all at the same time, just thinking back to it is making me feel ill.
the word 'gelatinous' does not make me hungry...
I grew up in a third world country, we ate every part of the pig....I like when the ears are stewed.
nope...when we get carnitas at home my family likes to the the ears and the meat they call "buche", which is I guess meat/fat from the neck. I've tried it and I don't like it. It's a texture problem for me. It's chewy and rubbery to me and I think it's gross.
At the Asian countries, they eat laterally everything...
nope. nope. nope. nope.
yum! grew up loving it!
I had fried pig's ears at a restaurant called Cochon ("pig") in New Orleans. It was awesome.
Pigs are too cute...I'd never eat pig anything.
no way - not only am i horrified - i'm a vegetarian, so there's NO CHANCE that i would try that.
Grew up with it. I'm not a fan, due to their texture, but the taste isn't bad.
....if I was a large carnivorous cat..ie a lion.
When I was growing up my family had a rule try everything at least once. I dont think my family would try this but I always believe in trying new foods. Who knows when you can find something you love! I was the 2 year old who ate raw oysters and escargot =) That was the two things I requested when my parents would take me out to dinner!
I just can't handle gelatinous food.
I'd give it a small taste to be adventurous, but the fact that it's gelatinous makes me think I probably wouldn't be able to choke that small taste down.
OMG I miss this! I haven't thought about it in ages.
I have an aunt who makes these sort of sausage things with sticky rice stuffed into pig intestines. Mmm. And her pigs' feet are the bomb.
I wouldn't like it just cause of the texture regardless of what it is.
icky , disgusting (?
Eww, and no way.
I don't like pork. At all. Especially bacon, the smell of it makes me nauseous.
I ate it without knowing it and it was good. I'll eat it again as long as it's mixed with other stuff.
love
it's an asian thing i suppose...
In Puerto Rico, we eat stewed pig ears. I love them....i know it sounds gross but the are very good =)
No. But my dog eats pig ears. Lol.
Where I live (somewhere in asia), it's kind of a delicacy. We eat it barbequed or in a sizzling plate with other pig parts (intestines and whatnot). It's actually kind of good, and it sometimes melts in your mouth.
yep had it before, but i prefer the feet,
I'm very iffy about 'gelatinous' textures - I've never been a fan. I wouldn't eat it but I'm not horrified. Each to their own I guess!
NO.
Texture.
Bad.
The thought makes me want to puke.
It's delicious, especially when it's fried, crunchy, yum..
it actually sounds pretty good. it just puts me off a bit because pigs ears were my dogs favorite treat. :}
eww..
Love, love, love pigs' ears. Might be one of my favorite snacks, actually, just like they are in this photo. I like pigs' feet too. I just HATE pig liver. It makes me gag!
No thanks. I'll save them for the dog!
Been there and ate that.
I don't want to eat what my dog eats.
absolutely I would eat them. I like alot of texture in my food.
Nope, I even find the smell unpleasing and very rarely eat pork.
I grew up eating pig's ears in an appetizer platter along with the pig intestines, cold jelly fish with sesame seeds, and boneless sparerib combo. It's delicious!!! Asians know what's up with the food.
i'm asian so i'm used to it and pig's ears are very gd appetizer, i know it sounds scary, but it tastes really gd!
o.O :gag: nope. no way. no how. not eating that. the only thing gelatinous is suppose to describe is Jello and i definetly don't want to see pigs ears wiggling at me unless it's attached to an alive and healthy pig.
Um, I buy these for my dog, so there's no way I'D eat them. GROSS!!!
I'd try it just to say I'd eaten it. It actually doesn't look too bad the way it's prepared in the picture.
I have no problem eating chicharrones, so I think I could give pig's ear a try. I'm totally turned off by the idea of snouts and hooves though.
i'm asian- i grew up eating everything. yum!
in the philippines we have a special dish here made with pig's ears called "sisig" - the fattening type of food you'd want to munch down with beer, the pig ear is toasted and seasoned with spices, sometimes it's topped with raw egg. it is soooo goooood.
Never ever...
Never ever...
Had 'em, but I didn't like the crunchy cartilage.
I think it would have to do a lot with preparation and presentation
Yucky! I'd try it though
