To save money on drinks at Thanksgiving, ask guests to bring a bottle of red or white wine. Head to Trader Joe's, they have a wonderful assortment of affordable wines, and purchase a couple of bottles to add to the collection. Instead of offering bottled water, fill pitchers with ice and tap water.
Make one signature cocktail and have a pitcher ready to pour the moment the party starts. This recipe for a cranberry champagne cocktail is festive. Instead of using champagne, substitute a sparkling Spanish cava. Beverages and More has one on sale for $7.00. Grand Marnier, the French orange liqueur, can be pricey, so replace it with Triple Sec. The combination of champagne and cranberries made my mouth water.
1That sounds delicious!
2I so wish that PA didn't have such altogether ridiculous liquor laws. I used to love Whole Foods and Trader's wines, but I can't get them now because god forbid they sell alcohol in a grocery store.
3i like the idea of champagne and cranberry juice. i've typically stayed away from champagne but i think that with the cran - it's going to be a good mix. i love cran mixed with other things, and the added fizz should be nice and festive. thanks for the tip!
as for the tap water thing - i think that a lot of us have filters, so you're right - it's very cost effective!
4Me too, Hippiecowgirl...this looks amazing!
5Oooo. This looks good. I'm having Christmas at my apartment this year and both my family and my fiance's family will be joining us... that's 10 people! I'll definitely be holding on to this recipe until then
6In my state Trader Joe's cant sell wine. Which makes me considerably sad.
7i'm making this tonight!
8Ok, so good!
