Last month, we reviewed the "test" edition of Food Network's eponymous magazine, and we didn't think it broke new ground. But apparently its publisher does: Hearst Corporation has decided to give the magazine the official go-ahead. Said Hearst VP Alec Casey:
We have had a great initial response to the first test issue, and feel confident that this magazine will resonate with consumers. At Hearst, we are always looking at how we can introduce new products that fill a need in the marketplace, and we think Food Network Magazine fits that bill.
Another test issue is planned for January 2009 and will be followed by the first official issue in June/July 2009. The issues are scheduled to hit newsstands every other month, but eventually the glossy plans to transition into becoming a monthly.
Have you picked up a copy of the magazine at the newsstand yet? What do you think of Hearst's plans for a massive rollout?

i've seen it out but i didn't pick it up. it looks too much like rachel ray or oprah and i'm not into that stuff too much. i think that i might end up getting a copy from one of my reps since i work with magazines, but that's about the only way right now that i can think of that i'd check it out.
1I bought it last month when I was in Montreal. It's not bad at all. I really liked the recipe index at the beginning of the magazine and I thought that the recipes were well balanced (# of appetizers, fish courses, sides dishes,...). It's nothing new but there is a bit of everything in it.
2Yea, who doesn't love the Food Network, I think this magazine was over due!
3It's actually not bad..I got it at the airport. It's got some great recipe ideas and I'm glad I bought it..I would subscribe.
4I haven't picked it up. With the way magazines have been dropping like flies, they're going to need to keep it new and fresh to compete, though.
5I was happy with the variety and also the non-recipe articles. I'll definitely subscribe.
6I just got it in the mail this week. what an incredible food magazine. It's sure to become my favorite. i will definitely subscribe
7No.I haven't picked it yet but I think I may flip through it first to see
8I decided to subscribe without seeing it because it looked good and they were selling it at a great price (and for a bonus I got a whole year of Good Housekeeping for $5) but I was disappointed to be sent a postcard in the mail claiming they had over-sold the first edition and I would have wait 3-4 weeks more to get my first issue!!!
I can't wait to get it!
9I can't wait for the next issue of Food Network magazine, I've been waiting for it!
10next issue june/july 2009 .. lol well that explains why i havent had a new issue in ages... coulda told us that when we subscribed.. this kinda peeves me considering the 2 letters i got demanding payment cuz i was a tad late. ive gotten the 2 opening issues but nothing for a few months now. maybe i shoulda not paid til june or july... see how theyd like it
11I was impressed with magazine I like the pictures of items plus that most were on only one page which makes it easier when you are trying to prepare a recipe in the kitchen
