I vote for Art Smith. Seems like he's got the goods for everyday food as well as for the fancy stuff.

This makes me sound a bit moronic, but when I saw this at first I was like "they have their own chef?" Um, yeah.

Bobby Flay is a good balance of fancy food and traditional American style cooking.

i love that tom got a lot of votes, but i think that it would be awesome of some of the top chef contestants were able to have that position - on a rotating basis. they all have such great different styles that you know that he'd get a lot of great dishes.

I don't know who some of these chefs are so I just voted for Bobby Flay because I love his cooking style.

All the chefs listed are fantastic, but I really doubt they would be willing to take a pay cut, even though the prestige of the White House Chef position would be a definite feather in their professional cap.

Although I love a lot of the chef's you mentioned I would have liked to have seen at least one woman chef get a nom in this time of change in our country!!!

i chose Rick Bayless because he is an excellent chef and his cookbooks are GREAT! he also happens to be the mastermind behind the obama's favorite restaurant, but he is not a chef that is really out there in the public eye. i don't think it would be wise to choose a flashy food network type chef for the white house. plus, he is all about moderation and healthy eating, which seems to be important for the obamas and i think is a good example for the country.

I can't speak for the Obamas, but if I was in the White House, I'd be begging Jose Andres to move a couple hundred feet down the road and come cook for me!

To brag about my younger brother . . . he's a sous-chef at Ajasteak in Chicago. The restaurant opened over the summer, and the Thursday before the election he ran the kitchen for a 100 guest party hosted by Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey. It was reported to him that Oprah LOVED the food (he'd done all of the prep for her food himself) . . . So I vote for my brother!

Since that's not really going to happen . . . I'll have to look back at the options

My warning to any qualified chef considering the position of
Chief White House Chef is that they read the book,
"White House Chef", by Walter Scheib and Andrew Friedman before
making a final decision to take the position.
By reading the book you would gain insight into the responsibility
of the position.

Actually, due to the need to protect the new first family, they
may want to consider a position of a Cup Bearer Chef who would
be responsible for their day to day presentation of food.
By having a close relationship with a Cup Bearer Chef they would
be protected from anything unsettling.

This would be a new thing, but it would be a position that answered
directly to them. Somehow, this information will get to them for
review.

Individuals who have established, successful restaurants should
be exempt from this request.
