Recently I was sent a box of meals by Freshology. Like the Zone, Freshology is a diet delivery program that helps celebrities lose weight and eat healthy. I was given four days worth of packaged meals in containers that resembled airplane food. Although the food was made "fresh," I was disappointed. Iceberg lettuce? Soy chicken? Not the tastiest or most nutritious of ingredients, especially when they were packaged three days earlier. Still, the meal plan could be great for someone who doesn't like or have time to cook. What do you think? Would you want to try Freshology?

I hate iceberg lettuce, (or as I call it "clear" lettuce), I prefer green lettuce. But I guess if I seriously had no time to cook or find healthy food, and if I had money to blow, I'd buy these instead of lean cuisine or lean pockets or whatever. I mean they're a step above that at least.
1It doesn't look as bad as I thought it would. I had a boss that was getting her meals delivered like this and I don't think it looked as "fresh"
2It doesn't look that bad, but I am allergic to soy, so I would have to pass.
3Who the heck wants to eat tv dinners for months?
4I would eat them, I've become a custom to eating things I don't necessarily like. I'm more afraid of gaining weight. How sad is that?
5I would try them as long as they are preservatives free. I wouldn't mind spending the money on these and they're a quick fix if you don't have time to prepare dinner.
6They just don't look all that good, and since I like to cook there's not much point for me.
7Iceberg lettuce has basically no nutritional value at all. These meals don't look appetizing at all. If you're in a rush and don't mind spending money, you're better off grabbing sushi or hitting the food bar at your local Whole Foods...
8I don't know if these pics are necessarily a good representation but these don't look at all appetizing. Even if I didn't want to cook, I could still go and buy non-smashed grapes at the store myself.
9I like to cook, so I'd rather make the food at home. That way I know how fresh it is, and what exactly goes in it.
10why do the grapes look like they exploded?
11Those grapes look vile.
12what is the nutritional information on these? Can you list it?
13No, I am a fresh freak.
14Those grapes look nasty!
15This just looks disgusting...healthy or not.
16Those grapes lost nast!!!
17ew, no...siiick. Why would it give you headaches after 2 days, though? I didn't get that at all.
18It looks pretty bad. I can just run to a nearby grocery store and get a salad that was made that morning. I guess if you didn't have any options... but eek.
19Another thing that makes people not have to think about what they eat. It's not right. You should be active in every food choice you make- you can stay healthy and slim simply by understanding what to eat and when to eat it.
20those grapes look awful! no way
21Yuck. No way. I agree that the fruit in the tray on the right looks disgusting!
22So about those grapes...the instructions said to heat in the microwave with the plastic on. I was focusing on the omelet and didn't even realize there were grapes. Afterward I thought it was weird that they would mix food that needed to be microwaved (the eggs) with food that wouldn't be too appetizing microwaved (the grapes).
23aaaahhhhh it all makes sense now. Thanks for explaining party! I too was about to same something about the look of the grapes
24Party kept getting headaches from eating these, and I had to beg her to stop trying her "experiment"! I have enough headaches in life...who needs a food program that will give you another?!
25Yum -
so very true!
Party - Your dedication to journalism and the sugar-readers is commendable!
But don't hurt
yourself on account of us
26Absolutely NOT. This, unfortunately looks awful. Nothing in here appears to be fresh, those grapes might be the most disgusting thing. I don't understand how people think that this is a better option than making your own meals!
27If I was going to eat bland, prepackaged food to lose weight, I think I'd just save myself a few bucks and go on the Lean Cuisine diet
My fiance's lost about fifteen pounds so far doing that.
28Those grapes look dehydrated and is that an omelet on top of zucchini? Yuck! Soy chicken? No thanks!
29No Way. If I wanted ice berg lettuce and already cooked soy chicken, I could get THAT fresh at the store instead of packaged. SHoot you can even get groceries delivered to you.
30Why would a celebrity eat this everyday when you could hire a personal chef to make real fresh food everyday?
Erm.... that's a big no from me. they don't look to pleasing. if i can't cook my own food then i'm going to at least have healthy food like fresh fruits and at the most maybe some lean cusine or healthy choice tv dinners in the freezer.
31I think you can make fresher meals yourself with more interesting (and tastier) ingredients. It would probably cost less too.
32There was a time in America, muchos anos pasados, when there was only one lettuce...Iceberg. Only lettuce in the store. Do any frsher meals include bacon wrapped hot dogs?
33I wouldn't label anything that was packaged 3 days ago "fresh." The grape thing is really strange, too.
34That looks entirely unappetising!
35No, the food looks stale and unappetizing. I question how healthy it is. Processed soy chicken?? I rather have fresh, steamed soy beans or steamed chicken breast. I would pass on this food.
36I've actually received their food, in Los Angeles and in NY and both were extremely fresh. My grapes never looked like that - ever. Isn't it common sense that you don't put grapes in the microwave?
I have tried the Jenny Craig and Lean Cuisine methods, but both were loaded with salt and made me really bloated and gross and my skin totally broke out!
37I had a 4 boxes delivered from them and the food was really good! It was all gourmet and I had all my food ready to eat. I lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks already! I don't have to shop, prepare, cook or clean! I threw the lunch and dessert in my bag when I went to work and I had dinner ready to heat up when I got home. They also send you water in every box! Your pictures did not do it justice because the food really looks great. They have some new process that keeps the food fresh until i am ready to eat it.
38so...I don't think this looks to bad now, of course I think the grapes would look a lot nicer if you would not have nuked them, wouldn't they....just because it takes the thinking out of the meal doesn't mean that you shouldn't think at all....
39Also, is this really iceberg lettuce, not a chef, but on the caesar salad it looks a lot like romaine to me....
those grapes are NASTY!!
40I have several friends in Southern California who have done the Freshology home delivery program there and loved everything. I signed up as soon as they started their national program. I don't agree at all with this article - the meals that I have received (including the omelet in the picture and the grapes that came with the meal - of course I didn't microwave the grapes) were delicious. I haven't gotten headaches and everything tastes super fresh. I've lost 12 pounds in the past 4 weeks and am thrilled!
41Heck yeah! This is a great alternative to me packing my own healthy meals when I am not able to. I may actually sign my sister up for this service for the next year while she has chemotherapy because she may not be able to prepare her own nutritious balance healthy meals due to extreme fatigue and chemo-brain.
How can something be packaged as fresh? It is it picked, cooked and put in suspended animation at its peak freshness then frozen or served.
Asking how something can be fresh when its packaged is like when I asked my mom when I was little it the banana I was eating was fresh. She said yes but truth be told the banana was probably over 3 weeks old by the time I had gotten it at the store. Bananas and other traditional fruits are picked while green and unripe then, washed stored and transported all the while continuing to age and degrade until you buy it at the store.
However my can of Libby peaches is actually fresher than the banana because the peach was picked when ripe, par cooked and package in suspended animation so that further degrading and nutrient loss does not occur.
42It always amazes me how one negative comment or thought leads to more and more......soon everyone jumps in.
I moved from LA to Redding a few months ago and when in LA, I had their service for quite awhile.
Not only did I lose a lot of weight but I felt great! My skin was clear, I had energy, everything was super fresh and the convenience was worth every penny. It kept me out of the market and away from the sodium laced frozen food.
The menu was never the same, which kept it exciting .....I never felt like I was on a diet. Since moving to
Redding, I can't find anything that comes close to Freshology. I wish they would expand North.
BTW......common sense would tell you to take the grapes or anything else that wasn't meant for the microwave out. But then again, maybe you leave the metal spoon in your coffee mug when heating coffee in a microwave.
Fins Up to Freshology!
43i'm not really a fan of meals like this so i would have to say that i'd pass on it. i think that it's a great concept for some people, yet not for me.
44The only reason that you would ever want to intentionally put grapes in the microwave is because they totally explode into little baby FIREBALLS and it is so awesome!!!
45I love the fact that there are, what, four positive comments from people on this article? They all talk about how they lost xxlbs in xx weeks. Oh, and this is the ONLY story on any sugar site they've ever commented on.
46I was thinking that too, uptown_girl.
47id eat it if it came vegan, much better for a busy lifestyle and someone who has a hard time getting all meals in a day and are healthy. i likes.
48So I just put in my first order for Freshology's GetSlim program and I decided to do a little research. These comments are making me wary, but I'm really hoping that it turns out well. I really need it, I've recently gained weight after a series of stressful events in my life and I'm turning to all possible resources to help get these extra pounds off. My goal weight is 145, wish me luck!! I'll keep you all updated with my results.
49So i just finished my first week, and great news- i'm hooked. I've already lost 4 pounds and i'm on my way to reaching my goal. The food is DELICIOUS. it comes in these little packages daily with such easy instructions. I dont even have to put any thought into what to eat next, because its already there waiting for me to heat it up, or even be served cold. I love the variety, i haven't eaten the same thing yet. My husband is so jealous of what i get to eat (especially since i'm not cooking for him anymore
)!!!
