Today Subway has announced that, beginning next Monday, it will offer flatbread as an option for any of its existing sandwiches, and will also introduce two new sandwiches, Chicken Florentine and a Steak & Bacon Melt, made with flatbread.
In a departure from Subway's signature fresh-baked bread philosophy, the flatbread dough will be baked off premises, then supplied to Subway franchises and finished off in on-site ovens.
With this launch, Subway is attempting to make headway in a tight market that includes other chains such as Dunkin' Donuts and Quiznos, which both already carry flatbread sandwiches. Do you think Subway's new product will take off?

Heck, all I have near my job is a subway so anything they have that is new I am willing to try.
1The real question is when Subway will introduce sandwiches that don't taste like cardboard.
2If it does taste like cardboard people don't seem to mind it with the current economic situation, so great for them offering more variety!
3Sorry sugar, but these sammies are not so new over here on the west coast. We've had them for a while now, and people seem to love 'em. They ain't goin' nowhere.
4They'll take off if they're cheap.
And I'm not being a grumpy "isn't it sad that only bad food sells" kinda jerk -- no, I really believe that chains and restauranteurs need to understand that we're dang poor! Food prices were already going up and quality going down before the economic crisis even realized.
The market for the Quizno's flatbread thing was to allow people with little money an opportunity to buy 'at least something' in 'transitional' neighborhoods.
In the past I've always thought Subway did an excellent job providing healthy, tasty food for relatively cheap (think $5 footlong). I think they can bank and even beat McDonald's if they push that front.
5That actually looks pretty good! I might have to try that.
6everyone's doing this - i think that it's great that people are being more health conscious and getting in on the trends, but it's kind of over kill at this point don't you think?
7i'll give it a shot.
i always go back and forth between subway and togos, but since
togos is closer that's the one i usually go to.
8I'll give them a try. Subway is the only thing even resembling fast food that I eat and variety is always good.
9I' try it--I'd like to see the nutrition info first, though.
10I love flatbread sandwiches. I'll definitely try this sometime.
11Awesome
I'm a huge fan of Subway, especially during the week for lunch. It's cheap
and healthy, if you pick the right ingredients. Also you can make it taste a lot better than cardboard if you add things like light oil and vinegar, pepperoncinis, avocado, onions, cilantro,
mustard, and a host of other things that have lots of taste for little calories.
12I'd be tempted to try this, but I worked for a Subway for a few weeks and I hate them. I still make obscene gestures when I walk in front of a Subway.
13I've over Subway. Yay for Quizno's!
14that sandwich looks tasty!
15It's higher in calories than 6 inches of their regular buns. Pretty awful from an ethical standpoint considering it's replacing tortillas which were marketted as being the healthy option. They're 260 calories. That almost how much an entire meal should be. Not just the bread. They also don't have whole wheat but 9 Grain wheat. Too much deception going on in my opinion.
