I have a love/hate relationship with gravy. I love the rich, creamy flavor of it and enjoy pouring it over the entire Thanksgiving meal (minus the cranberry, of course), but I hate making it.
As you can tell from this snapshot taken at Thanksgiving last year, for some reason, making gravy seriously stresses me out!
DearSugar dislikes gravy altogether — she hates how it makes the food soggy — while Yum is like me: she thinks gravy is delicious but tricky.
So how do you feel about gravy?

I hate it, its like liquid fat, I see no reason to ruin a perfectly healthy meal with that stuff.
1Love it, but I don't smother everything in it. My parents' thanksgiving tradition is to run out to buy bottled chicken gravy (because they're out of turkey) on thanksgiving. Whenever my mom makes gravy either it doesn't turn out or there's only a tiny bit. So, we mix it with store bought and it's always been really good!
Luckily we've been thinking ahead a few times and bought it a week ahead, despite my mom protesting that she can make gravy.
2I'm sort of indifferent to it altogether.
3I am totally with Dear. i hate it because it makes everything soggy. I don't like the taste either.
4I love making gravy now that I've gotten the technique down. I use to just rip open the McCormick's Gravy packet and call it a day. But then I really started watching my southern Aunts and Grandma when they would make gravy from pan drippings. The key is to good homemade gravy is making a good roux (really cooking the flour until it loses the raw taste and is light blond in color) and slowly incorporating the liquid into the roux.
Once I got the technique down I can whip up a wicked gravy anytime. Now eating it, that's more difficult. Like most things I cook by the time its finished I'm not hungry anymore.
5I don't think gravy is really that hard to make. If you take the pan you raosted teh turkey or whatever in and while it's still hot transfer the fat into a saucepan add in some flour to make a roux and cook it like wackdoodle said the rest is really easy. in fact the first time I made a full traditional Thanksgiving dinner for my husband and his family I made the best gravy and it only took about 15 minutes tops. Plus I love the gravy on turkey and as weird as it sounds on mac and cheese yummm
6I don't think it's that hard either. I have made or attempted to make other things that are so much harder to make than gravy.
7I'm not a big on gravy.
8i'm kind of on the fence about this one because there aren't too many ways that you can make it that don't stem from a turkey. i don't eat meat and i don't like to eat products made from an animal...so when we consider the veggie alternatives, they tend to be very heavy in cream/flour or things of that nature.
9HATE it! Yuck.
10Need it for hot turkey sandwiches the next day. Party, I thought you never got stressed.
11only Vegan gravy or none
12I thought I was the only one who hated it! I just don't think it adds anything worthwhile to the food.
13I'm with Dear...
14I'll have a pint of gravy, please.
15I love it! I love it smothered over everything and I even LOVE to make it.
16I really like it, but bad gravy is awful. My flatmates are huge fans of making gravy using powder (the idea of powdered animals really freaks me out
) and their gravy is always super lumpy. I stay away from that.
17Btw Party, I feel for you! That picture is super cute, but as much as I enjoy baking it can do that to me too!
18I'm not a gravy person. The only kind I actually like is the kind you put on biscuits.
19I love to eat gravy but making it stresses me out, too. My grandmother had the perfect gravy...but she never wrote recipes down. It seems like you have to feel your way through it and I'm usually so tense before I even start that it's destined to fail. (wow, I never realized how dramatic gravy making actually is for me
)
20Love it, but I suck at making meat gravies. I usually cheat and buy a jar of pre-made turkey gravy instead.
My granny used to make turkey and ham for Thanksgiving. She's make red-eye gravy from the ham drippings and we'd put it on everything. Tasted way better than turkey gravy.
21i don't like gravy. not at all. since my mom declared she "isn't making a damn thing for thanksgiving", and i'm the only one that's cooking the meal, there most likely won't be any gravy. bwa ha ha ha ha.
22I love gravy! The only time I ever really eat it is at Thanksgiving, so I'll be pouring it on everything!
23where are those hands coming from?
