Believe it or not, it's an apple slicer! This disc is designed to rotate around the apple, if you don't want but a few slices, you leave it up against the apple and it won't dry out or turn brown. Talk about clever! This dishwasher-safe, stainless steel device was designed by Jessica Battram and is sold out in most places, but you can find it for around $38.

Now that's a kitchen gadget I need, need, need! We just got a dehydrator, so have been slicing and drying fruit, apples especially, like crazy. This thing is so pretty and simple, much less prep than using a mandoline! Good find!
1Here's another time-saver I absolutely want!
2I just found out that my link does not work. Darn!
3That's pretty cool! As is other stuff on that website! Bad idea for me to click it because now I want to buy so many things!
4Wow, what an ingenious idea!
5hahah that's a brilliant idea, Kudos to the inventor!
6thats really cool!
7I saw that on the Food Network...the person who was using it seemed to be struggling a little bit to twist the thing.
8I love when you do these 'What Is It's'? becasue they always stump my fiance.
9re:.the person who was using it seemed to be struggling a little bit to twist the thing....
I was wondering how a person would hold it...???
10Jendudley: I don't think the blade is all the way around, but it does look uncomfortable to hold. They should make cute plastic colorful rings on the outside.
I would surely use this!
11Ohhh, that's nifty.
12Very clever!
13whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?!?!?! WOW! lol for some reason i thought it was that thing that cuts the foil caps off wine bottles but WOW! how does that thing work?! i wish there was a videodemonstration bc i can't really visualize how it works, lol. but sounds pretty cool
14it sounds like a good idea but I too wonder how it works
15I'd SO buy this
16I know the blade is isolated, but it looks like it needs a handle. Imagine the juice of the apple spilling on to the thing while you are turning it and getting slippery. How do you rotate it when it is halfway through the apple?
17That sounds like a great little gadget.
18Cute idea!
19Cool, but I'm not sure how this works, by the way it looks.
20It looks like I'd slice myself open with it.
So awesome and very high-tech looking.
21That is one cool gadget.
22To jendudley...

23You're supossed to grip the outside of the disc thing and twist it around the fruit. The blade in the middle makes a cut in the fruit to help...like this.
The apple has to be smaller than the slicer, or it won't work. But the slicer's pretty big, so that shouldn't be a problem. On the Food Network, the guy who was demonstrating how to use it got through a whole potato.
And they don't mention that for an apple, you're supossed to core it before you try & slice it.
