For the sidedish, my family packs ours with veggie marshmallows, maple syrup, lemon and orange juice, cinnamon, cloves, sugar, ect. And we don't mash ours either. So really, I never did have
plain sweet potatoes before lol Just the fatty kind that tastes great
Oh wait, I did have the plain canned kind once. It wasn't that great; maybe because it was canned.
I LOATHE sweet potatoes with marshmallows, excess maple syrup, etc. I cannot understand why someone would want to take something so healthy and turn it into something so bad for you. If I am
going to eat something awful, I'd rather eat a healthy dinner and a small slice of pecan pie afterward, as opposed to ruining perfectly delicious sweet potatoes with so much excess crap. My
in-laws do this (they turn EVERYTHING health into crap -- green bean casserole, etc) and it disgusts me. I like the company, but I no longer ever eat anything at Thanksgiving dinner, since
they do not let me bring dishes because they are "too healthy" for their family.
Sweet potatoes were never a part of the meal until I made a side dish last year. They were amazing. This year it is the side everyone is requesting I make.
i love sweet potatoes any way, anytime, anyhow. and they are so good for you (as long as you eat them just as they are). but for thanksgiving, it sure is fun to butter them up
I've never had that candied up sweet potato dish with the marshmallows and sugar and stuff. I love plain old baked sweet potatoes as is. I know if I tried it tasting like candy, I'd want it
that way instead. So I just stick with it the healthy way.
love it! though I'm trying to be a bit healthier this year, so I'll be foregoing the marshmallows and pie. They are still great though =) They help naturally satisfy my sweet tooth!
Ugh, dessert...my mother always makes sweet potatoes with a crapload of brown sugar, nuts, and cinnamon. It makes them REALLY sweet and syrupy and it completely ruins them. I prefer them
plain or roasted with a bit of olive oil and salt to give them a little flavor without being gross.
It's my job to bring sweet potatoes to Thanksgiving dinner, so I make them a different way every year. Most of the time I bring side dishes, but this year I plan on making a roasted sweet
potato cheesecake with a pecan crust. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it comes out good!

3I only like sweet potatoes as fries, so neither for me. Otherwise I really dislike how sweet they are.

5The sweet potato pone my family traditionally serves as a side dish is kinda both.

I found a great recipe at: http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn?action=displayRecipe&...
7LOVE sweet potatoes in any form they come. I had a whole one last night. It was delish.
8Sweet potatoes are almost too sweet on their own. Sweet potato pie is just overkill.
9well sweet potatoes have just become part of my thanksgiving deal - so i think that i'm ok with them as either sweet or savory bits.
10I love sweet potatoes, but at Thanksgiving sweet potatoes only make an appearance as that nasty side dish with marshmallows. so gross.

12Both! My mom makes candied yams and sweet potato pie!! Can't wait for Thursday!!
13Sweet Potato Pecan Pie always makes an appearance at my Thanksgiving table - though I'm starting to appreciate them as a side lately too.
14I love sweet potatoes in any form and so does my daughter. Sweet Potato Casserole is a staple on Thanksgiving.
15I've never had sweet potato pie, we just do ours with the marshmallows and brown sugar for a side dish. Yum!
16I hate the canned/marshmallow ones, but I do a mean mashed sweet potato side. I've never had the pie.
17I like it both ways

19they are best with marshmallows on top but I don't save 'em for dessert. side dish all the way! heck, main course!
20Definitely as a side dish! There's so many other things to have for dessert!
21I love the side dish with marshmallows! It IS really bad for you, so what? It's just one meal, and I plan to enjoy myself!

25Oh they are so good either way, but I think if forced to choose I'd go with savory because that salty/sweet combo is to die for!
26Sidedish!
