Perhaps in light of the big food holidays coming up, I've been giving a little bit of thought to portion control lately. I recently had a debate with a friend over whether we'd rather eat lots of mediocre food or a smaller quantity of very delicious food.
My friend said he'd rather eat more — but then again, he grew up in a place where portions were huge and buffets were everywhere. I, on the other hand, would rather eat outstanding food in smaller quantities — that is, unless I'm starving.
What about you? Would you go to a more expensive restaurant that served you less over a buffet restaurant where you can eat an unlimited amount of food?

Quality, definitely. The last few times I've stepped into a buffet-type atmosphere, it's made me want to vomit. Too much.
Quality always
i'd say quantity, but no one wants to eat a lot of crappy food!
Always quality over quantity for me.
Both! Of course quality is important, but if I leave the table feeling hungry, that's not good. My ideal is moderately-sized portions of very good food.
It depends, but I can say that I really hate those restaurants where you pay $50 for two teaspoons of food in the middle of a giant plate.
A little of both. I don't want to starve, but I don't want to eat crappy food either.
Overall I prefer quality, but there have been those moments when anything would do as long as it was enough to fill you up. It is not until you are full then you realize that it didn't taste good at all. But 9 times out of 10 I go for quality.
I prefer 'taste' instead of 'quality'! because the food I like/crave may not be expensive or high 'quality', but it damn sure tastes good!
Quality, no doubt!
I despise buffets and perfer quality over quantity.
I love buffets of quality food.
Quality always comes first, but need a good mix of quality and quantity.. hosting a family dinner of 20, quality first, but have to make sure the quantity is there to feed my 6 big nephews!! lol
I love places where I have a 7 course meal and still not be full, but just elated from seeing/trying all the beautiful things the chef can make
i think that for myself - quality is definitely more important. yes it can leave you hungry, but if you get a lot of food and it tastes like what you'd imagine dog food to taste like, then you're just wasting more and eating close to nothing. i would rather have a small plate and have it taste great.
Quality! It's so much more satisfying. Your stomach, well, at least mine, is not meant to be filled up with crap. I enjoy food far too much to settle for quantity.
You're right...it's so much more satisfying. I don't need a FULL stomach to feel satiated.
Quality, for sure.
Since I usually opt for a salad when we eat out, I actually PREFER a buffet because a) I get a bigger salad and I can put only what I want on it and b) my husband can mow through 4 plates of roast beef and potatoes if he wants to and we don't go broke.
I've been to one of those places that charges like, $30 for a shrimp cocktail appetizer with 3 shrimp...yeah, that kinda pissed me off. I do want SOME food for my money, you know.
Quality for sure. I don't enjoy eating huge portions anyway!
Quality always.
If I have to wait an hour to get in, then I should feel sated when I leave.
I like a lot of quality
Quality!
Quality is by far the most important to me. I love to eat and I want to eat good food that tastes good and is good for me. On occasion, and I believe most of can relate, a fast food hamburger, french fries and a regular ( not diet) soda pop can hit the spot. ; )
