Jamie Oliver, UK celebrity chef and gastrosexual, has announced the launch of his own bimonthly glossy, which will hit shelves this Thursday. The cooking star promises that his publication, aptly titled Jamie Magazine, won't be "yet another cooking mag," but will offer readers a "more personal relationship" with the man who is Jamie Oliver. According to editor Andy Harris, the magazine should make readers feel as if they are "being invited round to Jamie's house."
So how does Oliver plan to do this? To find out, read more. He's employed the help of his wife, Jools, who will pen a regular column. Oliver will also take some of the magazine's photos, and the premiere issue will feature a question-and-answer session between Jamie and his pal Brad Pitt, who admits that the best meal Angelina Jolie's ever produced in their kitchen is "cereals." The first three issues will be exclusively sold at WH Smith newsstands.
Considering the number of print publications that have succumbed to declining circulation over the past year, it only makes sense that the chef funded the magazine himself, to the tune of £250,000.
While Oliver does have an incredibly enthusiastic female following, I think he's making a rather risky decision to launch a food and entertaining magazine during a tumbling global economy, especially when the food magazine market is saturated and others — such as the Food Network and Sandra Lee — have already announced their new publications. Do you think he can set himself apart?

Isn't it going out to the UK? Looks like the euro sign in the price tag. I'm not sure it'd do well over here, but isn't he really popular over there? I'm not sure if it's risky or not, I don't really know anything about how it'd be received over there. He's adorable though.
1That's a £ - it appears to be either £5.95 or £3.95.
2Like you Jamie but you better find other friends.. do you understand what I'm saying???
3I like WH Smith. Too bad we don't have them here in the U.S. as far as I know. I doubt this magazine would do so hot over here anyway. In the UK, I can see how it would have more of a following.
4I don't know how well it will do but I'd take a looksee.
5I am crazy about Jaimie - I find him incredibly entertaining and his recipes are yummy! I would definitely buy the magazine if it was sold on this (USA) side of the Atlantic
6*sigh* I'd buy the magazine if he promises to be on all the covers in plaid shirts like that.
7just what we need - MORE chef magazines. i guess we'll see how well he does with this one. i don't think that rachel ray is getting all that much hype about her anymore - and i think that paula deal and sandra lee have their own too right?
8I think the mag will do well in England cos he is really popular there.
I'd buy his mag especially if it has his recipes in it. I have his cookbooks and they are amazing. He is a really talented chef.
9^what Suzaila said.
I think the difference with him, compared to many chefs, is that he doesn't only give recipes, but also teaches people how to cook. Sure, some ingredients can be a bit pricier than basic ones (fancy mushrooms, etc.) but the recipes are easily adaptable to cheaper ingredients or vegetarian versions. I've made amazing risottos and home-made pastas thinks to him, so I'll def get the mag!
10Ugh, "thanks"* to him.
