Bûche de Noël
A Christmas cake native to France. Also known as a yule log, it is a filled, rolled sponge cake. To resemble a genuine yule log, the cake is then frosted on the outside with buttercream and finished with fresh berries, marzipan or meringue details, and powdered sugar to resemble snow. Originally, the yule log symbolized the hearth that families gathered around to celebrate the holidays.

Damn I had no idea it was french only ! It's the best. Can't wait for Noel to have my tonton make his home-made buche
1we always used to make these for french class in high school and it's not embedded into my brain. it's kind of sad since i'm not much into things like this but at least i'll always have at least one holiday related dessert in my arsenal just in case i need to bring something festive to a party.
2depending on who makes them, i love them or hate them.
i've had delicious ones that were spongey, chocolate cake with cream filling or white cake with berry filling. i've had others, though, that were gross, dense, mushy jelly roll-like things.
3I've seen one, but never tasted this. Maybe I'll get a chance to taste it during my trip to France!
4I want one of these for the holiday I hope Whole Foods sells them.
5As a french, la bûche is such a typical dessert for Christmas that it seems weird that some people don't know about it.
6Also, even though the traditionnal bûche is a cake, it also exists as a frozen dessert made of ice cream and such.
Yay! Yay! YAY! Just found another recipe on my fav site... I'm so going to make this as my 'showpiece dessert' this year!!
