As we continue our coverage of the Best of 2008, I want to know which grocer is your favorite.
This year, we saw the cost of food increase across the board. With consumers on a tighter budget, pricier grocers such as Whole Foods have suffered. To keep up, these supermarkets are advertising deeper discounts.
Has 2008's economic environment affected your grocery store preferences at all?

Why isn't there an 'other' choice? I don't shop at any of these places.
1I like the way Whole food has so many different kinds of fruits and vegetables.
2I agree with amloveaffair. We don't even have some of the places mentioned. Since so many grocery store names are regional, an other category would be nice.
3We have the lovely Sunflower Markets here in CO (and throughout the west and SW) and they are AWESOME. I do most of my shopping there followed by Super Target and then King Soopers (Kroger company). None of those are on the list.
4I LOVE Wegmans but they are not in a very large area so fewer votes to be had.
5It's a tough call for me between Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. We don't have either of them close, but I'm willing to drive an hour and a half every once in a while to shop there.
6HEB Plus, they have an amazing produce selection!
7Trader's!
8I agree with the others that wrote that there should be an "other" category in the poll. I like Aldi's supermarkets.
9I like Aldi's too Lonelyheart. Their prices are amazing. And I'm with the others. All of these polls are great, but none of them have an "other" category.
10We have a store in Texas called Central Market with is part of the HEB chain and it is fantastic! We don't have Trader Joe's in Texas but if we did I would most definitely vote for them!
11anyone ever been to stew leonards? Love it there.
12Here in Sonoma County there is a great family owned 2 store chain..G & G market. They have a huge deli and meat and fish counters as well as a large selection of beer and wine. Plus they feature a lot of local products.
13I don't shop at any of these either. I do most of my shopping at Hyvee.
14Publix. which isnt on there.
15I'm a fan of Harris Teeter in the Virginia area.
16I voted TJ's
Followed by Safeway since its conveniently down the street from me.
17Schnucks in the St. Louis area. It is the perfect medium between the high end and low end stores... has everything I need at good prices.
18WEGMANS! More than a grocery store, it is a way of life. Instead of hanging out at the mall in high school, we hung out at wegs.
19Whole Foods. Trader Joe's is also a nice place for quality food.
20Publix!! Best graphic design for their generics.
21other-shoprite!
22Giant Eagle Market Fresh!
23I'm giving my Midwestern vote to Meijer! I guess I'm biased since the headquarters are here in Grand Rapids, MI!
24it was a close tie but Whole Foods won for me. my second fav though is Costco cause i can get just about everything that i need/want and i don't have to shop as often.
25Anyone else know Nugget Markets? I was just there over the weekend, and I realized how much I love looking at all of their stuff and spending time there
26OTHER. I chose Publix due to it's great circular and customer service. Their kiosk offering samples of meals featured in their circular is my fave.
27I wanted an "Other" choice, as well. I used to shop at Safeway all the time, but my sis-in-law turned me on to Winco Foods. It's soooooo inexpensive, I don't know how they do it. And it's employee owned, whatever that means.
It's a little bit dumpy (because it's sort of warehouse-like), but the selection, the prices, and the fun extras and KILLER BULK SECTION will have me going back, every time!
28Other choice- I shop Brookshires. They have the freshest produce, the best customer service and prices are competitive as well.
29Winco! Just stocked up there today.
30I don't really shop that often at any of those places. My favorite grocery stores are HEB, and Central Market (which is kinda like Whole Foods) under HEB, here in Houston TX.
31Another Publix vote here
32Publix, because their staff seems to always be sincere and friendly. And their stores are super clean.
33Wegmans, absolutely. One of the hardest things for me to deal with living out west is grocery shopping anywhere but Wegmans...
My boyfriend and I used to live across the street from a Wegmans, and would go there 4 or 5 times a week. I could plan out the most elaborate meals for us with an unbelieveable array of fresh, foreign, and fancy ingredients right at my fingertips. My boyfriend(the non-cook) could always go through and speak with one of the on-hand chefs who would give him dumb-downed recipes and ready to heat and serve creations that they made fresh daily.
As you can tell, Wegmans is like Mecca for me.
Thankfully, my bf and I are moving back to the northeast by next spring
34Out of those choices, we only have Walmart and I hate Walmart. I LOVE ALDI's. If we had one here, I'd shop at Earthfare also.
35If anyone wants to see what Wegmans looks like, please refer to the "Wegmans" album on my profile
36Wal-Mart... it's the only option to shop around here.
37SO glad to find fellow Wegmans devotees!!! I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I didn't have one close by.
I feel bad for all the people in the world with no Wegmans.
38Hey, where's Aldi on that list?? I LOVE Aldi's! The prices are phenomenal and they have a pretty decent selection. They also encourage you to bring your own bags and I love how you have to deposit a quarter to use the carts...people don't leave them all over the parking lot.
39Other. Harris Teeter
40I heart TJ's. When I was went to college in upstate NY, I loved Wegmans!
41Wegmans is the best grocery store EVER! It's like Whole Foods but less expensive and with a better selection. I also buy almost all my frozen food from Trader Joe's.
42Wegmans is by far the best grocery store i have ever been too
43WEGMANS!!!!
We just got a Wegmans in our town this past summer. On opening day it was like being in a Disney World parking lot. It was like I was parked in goofy 6 and was waiting for a trolley to take me up to the gate.
Wegmans > everthing else.
