The Stink Piles Up for Ramsay

Gordon Ramsay sure is causing a stink. Actually, make that PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) sure is causing a stink for Gordon Ramsay. PETA UK demonstrators dressed up as horses and dumped a ton of horse manure in front of his London restaurant Claridge's. Ramsay has been putting himself in the bad graces of PETA, first by dragging a slain deer through his restaurant and then by suggesting that people should eat horse meat. In an upcoming episode of his show The F-Word, Ramsay admits to eating horse.

"I've eaten horse", and says that it is healthy, with lots of iron and half the fat of beef and far more Omega 3 essential fatty acids. He describes horse meat as "slightly gamey" and "packed with protein".

Some are calling the horse meat statement a "ratings gimmick," and others say it's perfectly viable to consider other red meat sources. Either way I bet Ramsay didn't think it would cause such a stink.

I was wondering when PETA would get involved. The pic of him dragging an animal through his restaurant was disgusting. If it wasn't for ratings I'm sure he would have brought it in quietly through the back door.

I get that Ramsay is trying to make us meateaters think about where we draw the line and why. And it has become trendy lately to retrun to a "whole beast" approach with the so-callled nasty bits showing up all over the plcae in fine restaurants. Having grown up in the deep south where carnivore's lines may be a bit blurrier than in most places in the US, I think it's an interesting topic. But his crude tactics are so obviously a ratings grab and it just makes him come out looking like a horse's a$s!

Wow. That is horrible. I am sure Peta could have been a little more classy - but it got the point across.

I kind of want to say "Good for PETA" it got the point across without doing any damage except maybe from potential patrons not eating there!

Dragging a dead deer through his restaurant is just gross. But I don't understand why people think eating horse is any different than eating cow? If eating horse is cruel and/or gross, why isn't eating cow?

He's a total athhole, and he probably deserves it. However. How is eating a horse any worse than eating a cow, or a little lamb, or a chicken, or a pig, or any other meats that are considered 'ok to eat??'. Its ridiculous. Especially since we all know that pigs are as intelligent as a 4 year old child.

I'm fine with vegan and vegetarianism, but PETA is a puppy murdering group of hypocrites. If their celebrity spokespeople knew the truth about their animal "rescue" practices they'd run away screaming. That said, lugging a dead deer through a restaurant is pretty horrific.
