i prefer some type of vegetarian friendly app, however i do know the value in a good shrimp cocktail since that's something that i ate before i became a veggie and ironically enough, my
family ordered it yesterday at dinner.
You don't really swallow oysters - you chew on them to savor their flavor.
I love raw oysters a lot more than shrimp cocktail, since I find shrimp cocktail an excuse to overcook shrimp with some overly sweet ketchup sauce (from my experience), and I enjoy the ocean
brininess of the oysters, but everyone else has their own taste.
I baked some oysters for Thanksgiving. Shuck them and leave them on the bottom shell. Cover with garlic butter and grated asiago cheese. Bake @350 for about 10 minutes or until done. Great
way for people who are afraid of oysters try them and probably like them.
I love shrimp cocktail, so that's what I voted for. I also like oysters, but very few people in my family do - which is why I wouldn't serve it up during the holidays.
I think if I were the hostess and had to pick just one I'd go with shrimp cocktail because it's a safer bet, but as a guest I'd be delighted with either (or both)!

I feel like oysters is the more interesting choice, only because I've had shrimp cocktail so many times in my life. But, I do love them both.
1Shrimp cocktail! I love to create new and different dipping sauces. Raw seafood just has never done it for me.
2I absolutely LOVE shrimp cocktail! For whatever reason, I just can't do the raw oyster thing...it kinda grosses me out.
3LOVE both. Yummy.
4Why eat oysters (especially raw) when you just swallow them? I don't get it.

7Definitely prefer shrimp!!
8cerealchan, I love the taste that the ketchup gives it!
I've never tried raw oysters (or cooked oysters??) but I LOVE shrimp cocktails with avocado, lemon, crackers, etc... omg! I want some right now!
9I voted oysters...although the worst thing in the world would be to get food poisoning at a holiday party.
10I love them both!

12We always have shrimp cocktails during the holidays. I love both!
13Neither for me, I don't eat seafood. Both my sister and I have had horrible food poisoning from seafood - her's from oysters at a party.
14Shrimp would be the obvious choice, boring. I would go for the oysters, but steam them.
15I looove oysters!!!!
16I love both....I go way back with shrimp from childhood, while oysters are a more recent love. But if pressed I would go with shrimp.

19Oysters.
20I don't like oysters, but I love shrimp. I only like them grilled or sauteed, however. I don't like them boiled and put in a glass.
21Yuck to both! I prefer anything that isn't seafood!
22I like both, but I'd much rather have oysters.
23mmmm I'm hungry now
