WOW. I wonder how my local farmer's market would fare in comparison with my local grocer.
I like buying my produce/fruit from the farmer's market rather than the major grocery stores because I feel like the fruit is fresher (although it's possibly not always necessarily true, but it feels like that!) and I'm supporting local farmers. I try to do it here while I'm living in England and I know my parents always get the yummiest corn and cherries from the fruit stand near our house in the US.
I always figured it was more expensive - good comparison idea! I'll definitely have to check out a nearby farmer's market soon - once I find one!
that's really interesting. too bad there aren't any farmer's markets within driving or walking distance or I would totally be all up on that. Bringing home groceries on a subway and then a bus would just take too long (and be a hassle with trying to find space on the seat), especially if something needs to be kept cold.
I'm really lucky here in Atlanta. We have the Dekalb Farmer's Market and it is MUCH cheaper to buy meat, produces, grains, beer, wine, everything there! And it's all days fresher than the grocery stores.
Very interesting.. and that's a BIG difference!
