A recent poll shows Tampa is the most caffeinated city in the United States. In the study, the Florida city is closely followed by Seattle, birthplace of the coffeehouse culture and coffee titan Starbucks, with Chicago placing third. Rounding out the top five are the top two most populated US cities, New York and Los Angeles.
The poll looked at all caffeine consumption, including coffee, tea, energy drinks, chocolate, soda, pain relievers, and caffeine pills. The firm that conducted the study, Prince Market Research, also generated a list of the least caffeinated cities in America. The sleepiest city turned out to be the California twin cities area of Riverside/San Bernardino, followed by Atlanta, San Diego, Minneapolis/St. Paul, and Dallas. Overall, 49 percent of all people surveyed said they drink caffeinated coffee on a daily basis. A surprising 20 percent admitted to drinking cola every day, tied with tea.
I'm taken aback to hear this, since everybody — from friends to people I pass on the street — seems to be more tired and less wired these days. What do you think of these numbers?

i drink coffee every single day - i'm a college student and some days it feels like that's the only way i live. it also doesn't surprise me that ny and la are both in the top five - and i go back and forth to live between both regularly.
1maybe all that caffeine consumption is making people's bodies immune. or they're so tired b/c it takes a lot of effort worrying about staying awake and being productive and going out and buying something with caffeine in it! lol
2the number one suprised me! tampa??!! i live in orlando, and i never noticed it being that caffeine-y...and i have been to seattle many times, so hmmm..
3i was surprised that San Diego was on the "least" list...coffee or energy drink makes that city hum! they obviously didn't survey my friends or the college students. LOL
4Dallas is on the list of least caffeinated cities? Really? I guess that's a good thing, but I kind of find it hard to believe.
5Wow..
6I thought SF would make the top five.
7fitsugar: SF was #10 on the least caffeinated list! Can you believe it?!
8i'm suprised portland wasn't on the list..being gloomy ...we drink alot of coffe here!
9Ha Ha Jessie! I would have to second that one- Portland seems like it has more Starbucks than Seattle!
I went to the mall the other day and there were 2, one on each end of the mall ( both with huge long lines).
The neighborhood I live in there are 4 Starbucks within a mile of each other! And that is not even counting the independent coffee shops in the same neighborhood. Its like crack over here!
10it's kind of interesting to me to see that Tampa is more caffienated than a lot of others in the country. i used to live in FL and i didn't drink coffee as much while i was down there - it was all about water and smoothies..but i guess tampa is just a different type of place than the east coast of FL
