There was an infamous "box-o-wine" night between some friends and I that still comes up from time to time years later. It was a rough one the next day, probably the worst hangover I have ever experienced. Regardless of wine quality or price, the thought of wine in anything other than a bottle makes me gag- insert little puking face here

To be honest, I've never seen anyone drink from a box of wine, or ever seen a box of wine in person at an LCBO

From what I understand, screw caps prevent from wines becoming 'corked.' But what is benefit do you get from a box? I agree, it seems like a good idea for a beach party

Box wines are good if you can get one that actually tastes good (my faves are black box) because they don't spoil like an opened bottled of corked wine would.

UTNikki is right-- the screw cap is NOT a bad thing, even established wineries are turning to that or synthetic corks to prevent wines from being Corked. Most amateur wine drinkers dont even know what corked is though....

Boxed wines are great for outdoor places(floating the river, tailgates, etc). But they also store nicely in the fridge and are lighter than glass bottles.

i actually try and use decent boxed wine to cook with . . . it's a little cheaper and tastes almost the same

I think that wine is cute because it has bunnies on it, and THAT makes me want to drink it!

i guess i'll try it once. but part of the fun in drinking wine (at least for me) is that whole presentation of a nice looking bottle in your kitchen.

I''ve also heard that a new solution to prevent corking wine is to use glass corks. I asked a sommelier about somehow accidentally getting ground glass in a battle with a class cork and he said it's not a problem. Has anyone else heard about this?

austrailian wineries in particular are using more and more screw-caps. i work at a VERY high end restaurant with a huge wine list, and we sell few wines with screw-caps... some are actually very good. it does look kind of stupid when you are presenting a bottle at a table, though... twisting off the cap and presenting it to the host... lol!

i just saw something about this the other day on the food channel (i think). they were joking about the old boxed wine and saying how the new boxed is nothing like it. i like the bottle, glass specifically. i guess i could adjust to a screw on. it was okay back in high school, lol.

GoofyGirl i LOVE black box wine! guys, you have to try it - it's some of the best inexpensive chaddonay out there, very crisp and cool. i haven't tried the other varietals yet, but if you like really decent chardonnay, give it a go. it's delicious and @ $20 for the equivalent of 4 bottles, you can't go wrong.

I've never had boxed wine, so I don't know if it's good or bad. Mostly I've never had use for that much wine. If I'm hosting a party I'd rather get different bottles to try than just one kind. I like corks too, but I'm understanding the screw caps/plastic corks prevent the wine from getting spoiled by a bad cork. Still not sure what makes a cork go bad though.
