A couple of weeks ago YumSugar pointed out that you can use an egg slicer to cut more than just a perfectly hard boiled egg. She recommended using it for slicing strawberries or mushrooms, but forgot to mention my favorite use for this wonderful multi-tasking tool: cutting fresh mozzarella for caprese salads. Fresh mozzarella is quite soft, making it difficult to slice with a knife, but with an egg slicer all you have to do is separate the cheese into pieces.

Gah, I need to get one of those. They're quite brilliant, who would have guessed you could use them for other things than eggs.
1I've used my egg slicer to cut strawberries and mushrooms before, but fresh mozzarella never even crossed my mind! Brilliant!
2I'd have to say my cheese grater is my biggest multi tasker.
I have one of the old fashioned flat ones, and I use it as a strainer when I boil pasta by holding it up against the side of the pot and pouring the hot water off through it.
I also use it as a potato ricer, and I use the "fancy shred" panel as a texture for making marzipan fruits.
hehhe.. I also use it to reach things on high shelves in the kitchen, but I can imagine many people use all sorts of strange things for the same reason. *smile*
3-A.
What a great idea.I never thought of that.
4This makes me want an egg slicer just for the other reasons listed!!!
I throw a muffin pan (upside down) over the top when cooking.
5Multi-tasting tool? Hm, I don't own any lids for oven-proof dishes so when I want to keep the moisture in something like when making my chicken breast/onion/potato/carrot dish
Mozzarella - what a great idea!
6Great idea.
7This is one of those "why didn't I think of that" situations! Those are some awesome ideas for alternate uses of an egg slicer.
8I use it for slicing mushrooms.
9Rasp grater is not just for cheese or citrus rind...use it to grate ginger and garlic too. You'll get silky smooth ginger with no fibers and full garlic flavor.
