January is the dead of Winter, so it only makes sense that it's also National Soup Month. There's nothing quite like a steaming hot bowl of soup to warm the stomach and spirit. Since every culture in the world has soup in its repertoire, I'm going to test your knowledge of soups from around the globe. I'll name the ingredients, and you guess the soup. Ready? Let's get slurping!

10/10! Now I'm craving French Onion after looking at the picture.
17/10 Not bad for guessing. I only knew 4 for sure!
27/10. Those soups sound DELISH.
3at least i got 60% right. there are some that i've just never heard of before. i just got a nice lesson here!
4Question 5: Beets, yogurt, and dill, served cold
It's borscht. This soup is a staple of many Eastern European and Slavic cuisines, and is made from beets, which give it a vibrant purple-red color.
This is definitely not correct in my Ukrainian culture. It's NEVER served cold and there is no yogurt in it. Fail.
5Borscht is not served cold, so I definitely got this question wrong
6That picture of rench onion soup may inspire my dinner tonight. French onion soup is sooo good, it might be my favorite soup.
7Oh man that french onion soup is amazing looking - I was stumped by quite a few of these. Guess I don't know as much as I'd like to think I do!
810/10! I didn't think borscht was served cold, but I knew it had beets in it. My former neighbors were Russian, and their borscht was always hot, with no yogurt! But now I'm totally craving soup!
9I agree with the other comments... I'm Polish we definitely do not serve our borscht cold or with yogurt in it.
10mmmmmmmm love borscht...
This post actually helped me with deciding dinner tonight. Thanks!

I love me some soup!
12the last one- posole is with hominy, menudo is without hominy. But it also depends on the area you are in.
137/10 for me...most of these were pretty easy.
14Woo-hoo 100%, damn right I love soup! Today's lunch is from SF Soup Co, (my default lunch spot) Organic Savory lentil with Chicken Andouille sausage, 218 cal and 1 gram of fat!
159/10
I blew it on New England Clam Chowder. The bacon threw me off.
16I like to throw a bit of extra butter in when I'm making canned clam chowder.
Mm. Guess what's for lunch?
17French onion soup is not served with croutons but a medium slice of bread which is toasted and the cheese melted on top. I would call it a crouton
18Me too HoneyBrown - darn clams, but I love soup!
199 of 10 right. I missed miso...lol
209 of 10 right. I missed miso...lol
21superstephani, posole does not have tripe in it so it was an impossible answer...
22I agree with the borscht is NOT cold and doesn't have yogurt. Maybe finished with a bit of sour cream, but not yogurt!
23Mmmm...French Onion Soup. Now I'm craving it so bad!
24I need to have more soup.
25kick ass!
266/10.. not bad considering i knew like, 3 for sure
279/10 - Missed the first one!
My Hungarian great-grandmother served Borscht once... and it had yogurt and was served cold!

I think that description of borscht is actually a description for Salitbarsci, a traditional cold soup from the Baltic states.
29I've never seen either clam chowder with bacon. ???
30I'm making soup right now
314 out of 10....o dear
32I want some French Onion soup right now...
33I'm the queen of borsch as my grandgrandma and my grandma grew up were it was traditional and i can tell you right now it's not borsch what you called
it's something like cold borsh which is Lithuania/Belarusian/Ukranian but
you use kefir and add cucumbers and eggs and potatoes. And real borsch is served hot and no beets are involved, but tomatoes. If you involved beef stock and beets than it svecolnic. Which
translates into "beet soup". I bet the other soups that i know nothing about you wrote wrong as well
Stupid stupid americans...
