I was really disappointed with the outcome of Wednesday night's Top Chef. Jamie was my favorite cheftestant and I was certain she would make it to the final three. When I spoke with Jamie yesterday morning, I was surprised by her incredibly positive attitude. She's still hard at work at San Francisco's Absinthe, and fell asleep on the couch before she could catch her elimination on Top Chef.
To find out what she had to say about Stefan and scallops, read more.
On what she achieved by being on the show: I think for me going on the show and being on for the time I was, was a great achievement. I was able to showcase my talent. I showed I am a strong cook.
On her elimination: I screwed up and I had a pretty good idea that I was going to be the one going home. I had to accept my fate at that point and move forward. It's not the end of the world. For me it wasn't, at least. It was so long ago. It was six months ago. I've had enough time to let it marinate. I realize that being on the show itself is an amazing experience. I was kicked off over salted celery; I mean it's just not a big deal. If it had been my own food, my own creation, and my own intellectual property, I would have felt a lot worse. It was easier for me to go home because I cooked someone else's food badly.
On her obsession with scallops: I'm kind of over all the scallop talk. I didn't even realize it would turn into such a big deal! I think Fabio's comment sort of escalated it. But, I do like cooking scallops. Yeah, they are on my menu. I don't know. I think the whole thing is kind of silly.
On her relationship with Stefan: The whole romance was kind of fabricated for television. I think it was more of a crush in terms of admiration. Actually we have a lot of respect for each other as chefs. We both really admire each other. He's one of the people I talk to the most now. In terms of his personality, yes, he can be overbearing, especially when we were stuck in the stew room for hours and hours, but we have stayed in contact.
On the judges: Gail was my favorite of the judges. She was the most fair. When Gail would speak, I would really listen to what she had to say. I think Toby is there for the showmanship. I'm just going to stay mum about Tom and Padma.
On who should win: Anyone's game. Stefan is the most talented. But who knows? Any of them could win. A lot of people thought I was going to win and I'm not there anymore.
On what's next: I'm staying at Absinthe for awhile. I don't know what is going to happen. We'll have to wait and see. I would love to travel and experience a lot of different cultural foods. I don't know if I want to open my own restaurant. I've thought about pursuing more television, I've talked about opening a soup joint, but part of me really wants to go back to New York. Who knows?

i think Jamie is awesome and would love to eat her food any day!
1I have mixed feelings about Jamie - I think she was talented and didn't deserve to go home over Leah, but her attitude at the beginning where she was such a sore loser all the time really bugged me.
2One of the strongest competitors this year. I compare her exit to Dale Talde's in season 4 and Tre Wilcox's in season 3.
3I am really not a fan of Jamie at all. She was totally disrespectful of Eric Rippert and so what if she wasn't inspired by him & his type of food she should have been able to knock it out of the park then...She has too much attitude..."I'm kind of over all the scallop talk" of course you are you screwed them up
4"I'm just going to stay mum about Tom and Padma." Hmm...
5best of luck to her.. i was def rooting for her
6I'm with you Yum - I really wanted to know what that comment meant!
7well - i can't say that i agree that she's the best there - but i did like her, and kind of wish that she had gone farther. i'm sure that whatever lies ahead of her, she'll be successful. she just seems to have that sort of personality.
8i was rooting for jamie too. i can't wait to try absinthe - very soon! i thought leah would have been given the boot. leah needs a shot of B12 or something, she is so lethargic and blah. i couldn't believe she gave up on the quick fire elimination. she is talented but her attitude is for s--t.
9her favorite judge is Gail? um...
10I was disappointed to see Jamie go. I totally wanted Leah out of there, I can't stand her whining anymore. I still think Fabio's comment about the show being called Top Chef instead of Top Scallop was funny!
11I liked her initially, but agree that her attitude started to bug me.
I agree that Toby was a bad choice. It would have been fun to have Bourdain there for the second half!
My friends and I now refer to the show as "Top Scallop".
12Ahhh. She continues to be so refreshing and down to earth. I only wish we could continue to experience that on the show. Now I gues I will have to break my longstanding protest against eating at Absinthe, which I instated when they once accused my date and I of having fake IDs (they were real).
13Poor Jamie!=( I deffinately think Leah is getting over on the judges! Why is she still here!?!
14Jamie's attitude would have bugged me more if she sucked. But she evidently was one of the better chefs there, so I think she's entitled to a little cockiness. I wish I could check her food out firsthand at Absinthe!
15"A lot of people thought I was going to win." Erm, your friends and your ego are not an acurate polling sample...
16I think LEah should have went home before Jaime. Jaime's skills are superior. I believe Leah is being kept on for the dramatic factor of her relationship with Hosea. I believe Stefan is going to win, and I believe he should win. He is clearly the best chef there and ultimately this show takes itself seriously in the end.
17I think Jaime disrespected Eric Rupert as well, and in a very public manner, that cannot be good for her career. I am not a fan of Jaime, I think she seemed talented (moreso than others left) but her attitude left me with a bad taste. She is sick of talking about scallops? I was sick of her cooking them! (and screwing them up!)
18I think she is a sore loser with a bad attitude. The whole attitude about Eric Repert and his cooking and now this "tom and padma" thing proves it.
19oooh I want to know more about the Tom and Padma comment!
20I'm convinced she was kicked off just because the producers wanted the drama with Hosea and Leah. I was pretty annoyed. The two of them drive me crazy, and Jamie was obviously the better chef.
21LaurenG22 I agree--I never liked her attitude. I def. think Leah should have gone home a long time ago--but I won't miss Jamie. In the beginning she would complain because she hadn't won a challenge yet and was being robbed--well then cook better Jamie!
The way she talked about Eric's food, on the show and above, and the quote about Tom and Padma sealed the deal for me--she has no class.
22leah should have gone home episodes ago! and totally agree with michelann-she's been kept there purely for the drama with hosea (snore).
jamie's attitude may not have been the best but she's got a hell of a lot more talent than leah will ever have.
"tom and padma" .... dying to know....
23It amazes me how much like sheep people are.
Jamie did a grand total of four dishes involving scallops, out of over 20 dishes she did while she was on the show. But people think that she only does scallops, largely because they heard someone say it on TV.
