well, if the wine is good, it's not really an issue. However, there is something charmingly, romantically rustic about drinking wine from a tumbler. Here in Italy, the majority of small
wateing holes where the locals gather to chat and play cards will serve the wine in tumblers. Newer places with younger clientele will go for the wine glasses.
Totally depends on the situation. Home alone I'm drinking out of a stemless wine glass, a tumbler or a jelly jar, whatever is handy and easy to clean. With people over it is a wine glass of
some sort. I prefer stemless because they are easier to clean and break less.
If you don't mind dirtying more glassware, a fun experiment with wine is to try drinking it from a different sort of glass.
The same wine can taste *very* different when served in a tumbler, red wine glass, white wine glass, or champagne flute. In fact, I've had pretty "Ehh..." wine taste spectacular just by
switching up the glass.
I don't get the "European-style" reference at all..
I live in London, visit Italy and/or France twice a year and Greece every few months..maybe I'm not frequenting the right places?
It's a bit like saying "do you like your meat 'American style', between two slices of bread?"
I've never actually drank wine out of a tumbler before...which probably means I am uncultured. I've never thought of drinking my wine out of anything but a wine glass. Meh...am obviously not
well traveled enough
Unless I am drinking cheap red wine, I would like a wine glass please. There is a reason wine glasses have a wide bowl at the bottom and narrows at the top. This opens up the nose and shows
the complexity of the wine.
i think that wine should be drank out of a wine glass..whether it's one that has a long stem or not....i have the red wine glasses that have no stem, and that's something that i prefer. it's
a bit more contemporary.
I don't mind drinking red wine out of a European tumbler or Moroccan tea glass but generally prefer to drink it out of the stemless red wine glass. Wine glasses were developed for a reason:
to let the wine breathe properly and enable the drinker to take in the complexity of the wine. Some of the bigger red wines need some time to open up.
However, a great bottle of red doesn't discriminate in relation to glassware, it is incredible on its own!!!
The shape of a red wine glass is designed to enhance the aroma of the wine. Drinking anything but a young cheap wine in a tumbler is a waste, but even that young cheap wine might taste better
in an appropriate glass.

This soup ends up being a good source of three blood pressure-lowering minerals since the milk adds calcium and the potatoes deliver a dose of potassium, as well as magnesium.
maybe i'm not worldly enough (even though i'm living in europe) but i've never in my life seen someone drinking wine out of a tumbler...

2Doesn't matter to me.

4I dislike red wine very much.
5I'm not a wine drinker, but I think red wine glasses are really pretty!
6I think that wine glasses just look so elegant, but I suppose if the occasion was a little more casual a nice glass tumbler might be more appropriate.
7I've been to a French bistro where they served red wine in tumblers. It was fine.
For me, it doesn't matter. All I care about is if the wine is good.
8Can't say I have a preference! If the wine is good enough it doesn't matter what I drink out of!
9I usually use a tumbler at home because I can put it in the dishwasher.
10Can't I take a compromise?? How about stemless wine glasses???

11Wine glass, stemless wine glass, tumbler, jelly jar, dixie cup, you name it and I'll drink it.
12I just don't like the heat of my hand warming up the wine too much. Of course, reverse argument is that I should maybe be drinking faster then..haha.

15I love drinking "Godfather style" out of little tumblers.
16I've never actually drank wine out of a tumbler before...which probably means I am uncultured. I've never thought of drinking my wine out of anything but a wine glass. Meh...am obviously not well traveled enough
17It doesn't matter to me as long as the wine is good, but I to prefer the wine glass a little bit more. Probably the uncultured part of me.
18I'll drink it out of anything. Heck, I've used a coffee cup when everything else was dirty.

23I drink out of tumblers merely because I don't bother to take down the wine glasses when I'm drinking alone.
24I only use tumblers when im to lazy to hand wash my wine glasses...
25yeah, i lived in 5 european countries, 2 of them produce wine and never saw tumblers+wine.
