I love seafood, but don't know anywhere in NYC I could find these types of events (anybody know?)
Everytime I see these types of things on Food Network I get so hungry and sad (I want sticky, buttery crab fingers too!) because I've always wanted to go to those types of events where its
just a big ol' table of seafood on newspapers. Sounds so good!
I just went to my first one on Sunday! Our friends go to Chinatown in LA for dungeness crabs and are total pros. No butter for us though, they made two lighter sauces with Asian spices,
although most of the time I just ate it plain. So good and we loaded a video of the "cooking experience on Vimeo! http://vimeo.com/3242441
Ok, can someone who knows these things tell me the difference between a clam bake, a crab boil, and a crab feed? I'm confused now. Which is the one where crabs are cooked with corn on the cob
and piled on a table with newspaper and lemons? Thats the one I want to do. That one and maybe one with lobsters and crawfish too (but I'm feeling hungry and greedy, lol)
Being from Maryland - this is a must do! It's funny because I always think of it as a MD thing, but they do it in New Orleans, San Francisco, etc. I guess it's a bay thing!
In Louisiana it's called a crab BOIL and we put corn, potatoes and whatever the heck else you want in a big propane fueled pot and let it simmer in tons of spices. YUMMMM!
We do this every summer in Philly. Usually before Odunde. So manys different dips and recipes. Boiled, baked, and always lots of newspaper. My family saves cartons of newspaper to prepare for
this each year.
A friend of mine makes all of us SFers head out to Tracy every March for the Portuguese Crab Feed. It's amazing in all the ways something can be amazing
There is one every week somewhere in northern Ca. They are popular fundraisers. Usually for $25-35 you can eat fresh crab for hours. Usually served with pasta, garlic bread (pass on both) and
salad. Perfect with a large group of friends!
Um, I live in Wisconsin. We do not have crab boils/crab feeds/etc. unless you count the Krab salad they have at the all-you-can-eat buffets, lol. I'd love to go out to Maryland with my
husband next time he has to go out to Aberdeen for business...apparently, crabs are a lot more plentiful out there.
I live in Maryland within a few feet of the bay so my dad had me out on his boat catching crabs and fish while i was still in diapers. Crab feasts in the summer are a huge part of our
culture. I definitely miss them when I have moved to other parts of the country.
Many moons ago, I lived in the mountains of western Maryland. There was a joint on Rt. 15 just north of Frederick that had the whole scene, newspaper covered tables, wooden mallets, and bowls
of melted butter and cocktail sauce. They brought you blue crabs by the BUCKETFUL, and, paired with ice cold beers, it was a FEAST !!!
I host crab feeds for friends for special events and birthdays. Just boil some potatoes and corn and briefly throw in the crab before serving on newspaper. What else should I through in at my
next feast?

Love these things. We used to have them every summer.
3Smacks83, in New York, you're already a hell of a lot closer than those of us in the midwest.

5I am from Baltimore, though very allergic to crabs, we have crab feasts all the time, but I have never actually eaten one.
6Is that the same as a crab boil?
Been to lots of those!
7and why do people steam crabs, blech, boil them! Much better.
8I don't know what this is...along the lines of a clam bake or something??
I'd definitely go!

15I haven't been to one since I was really young... like 7 or 8. I don't know if I would be down for one these days.

17it's funny - all the years that i lived in Maryland i never went to one, and now i just have zero desire since i'm not a fish/crab eater.

20YES! In Hokkaido, Japan. Best food ever. It was during the Snow Festival in Sapporo and the crab was in season. SOOOOO GOOD!
21Every week in Jan.-Feb. Mar.
22There are people out there who HAVENT been?!
23No interest...

26Such things do not exist in this neck of the woods, but we do have crawfish boils and I've been to plenty of those.
27Yeah I've been, but we don't call it a "crab feed" in Maryland. Crab feast maybe.
I from blue crab country in the Eastern Shore of MD. We know how to crack em! haha
28Hmm... if this is a bay thing... then I'm gonna have to look up the ones around here (maybe in Savannah???)...
See, my mouth's watering already...
29syako I'm with you, never been to one, but thinking that a Low Country boil might be the same thing?
