Last week I mentioned that at least one scientist believes that cilantro preferences may be a genetic trait. Since people are clearly divided on the flavor of this plant, I thought I'd ask: Which of you are (possibly genetically predisposed to be) cilantro lovers and haters?

I love it, use it all the time.
Love!
I'm really trying to like it but so far it's not working very well.
It really makes salsas and guacs! I love it in everything (my mom loves putting it in her chicken soups).
love it. great for garnishes, and when i blend it in some dishes, it adds a flavor that other herbs dont possess (at least in indian dishes!). also, im not sure if you ever used coriander seeds in cooking, or coriander seeds in a powdered form, but thats also a lovely, and staple addition to many of my dishes.
Love it and actually look for recipes using it.
Too strong for my taste
Love it. It tastes like pure summer.
From my understanding, people either love it and would eat it in almost anything or they hate it (and apparently can taste like dish soap to some).
It really brings latin food alive. with out it guac is not the same.
I want cilantro to die.
Pharm, I know what you mean, a friend of mine is Indian and she uses coriander seeds alot. I don't know if this is Indian but she makes it all the time and I go nuts for it. I joke that its Indian guacamole! Mashed avocados, chopped onions and tomatoes, coriander seeds and plain yogurt. Its just so yummy she has to make big batches when I come 'round.
It's a must in Bengali meals.
Being a latina I absolutely LOVE cilantro! We use it in everything lol if I hated it, I'd be miserable
The frozen cubes of chopped cilantro go in pretty much everything I make
I love
those little blister packs of herbs
Blahhh I hate it. I just think it has a horrible flavor. My my mom (who's half mexican) literally would eat it in EVERYTHING! She loves the stuff!
It is a staple in my kitchen... LOVE it in Mexican, Thai, Vietnamese food. I make a homemade salsa that's heavy on cilantro... everyone who tries it loves it... even people who thought they didn't like cilantro. It's an ingredient that has to be combined with other specific ingredients to truly enjoy it... you can't throw it in/on just anything.
Hate it..loathe it...despise it...and, yes, I agree cilantro should die!
smacks ive never heard of the dish youre describing, but it sounds delish! ill try it the next time i crack out the tortilla chips
Family is totally split on this - Dad and I in favor (within reason) but Mom and Brother are vehemently opposed. If it's a genetic predisposition, cilantro wouldn't be the first to fall along the same line!
I love it. However, Italian parsley is the herb I use most frequently.
Absolutely HATE it!
I'm Mexican and my family uses it in tons of dishes, but I actually don't like it at all.
when i first had it, i enjoyed it, but for some reason, there was a change and ever since then, every time i smell it i get really nauseas.
The Chinese like it too, but I don't get it. It's not that I hate it, I just don't taste it.
Tastes like soap to me.
Saying I don't like it isn't even the right word, its more like an aversion. I can taste even the smallest amount of it in any dish that has it. It is inedible for me.
It's my favorite herb to use. I LOVE it.
I feel like those of you who hate it simply misunderstand it! IMHO, it's one of the best herbs out there.
I used to hate it. I thought it tasted like soap, but slowly, it grew on me.
I couldn't love it more. I am planning on growing some more of it so I will never be without.
I love it!
Hate. Haaaaaaaate. It doesn't taste like soap to me, it's like what you'd get if you crossed bell peppers and chalk.
Love it. It adds such a fresh taste.
I hate cilantro. The taste is way too overwhelming, even if it's only a little. My dad also dislikes cilantro, so I guess it could be genetics.
I would eat it in nearly anything, but one of my best friends truly can't stand the taste and won't choke down anything with it.
I don't think I've ever had it...
Like honey and olives, it makes my physically ill.
I hate it. Always have. The smell just icks me out. But my mom, dad and pretty much my whole familia love it. They all use it in their cooking.
I love it.
(Glad the image is of cilantro and not grape leaves this time!
)
I personally love it, but my husband hates it with a passion (he claims it doesn't taste like something that you'd consider to be food), so when I make salsas and things, I have to leave it off his portion.
Tastes just like soap to me, yuck.
LOVE IT! The taste, smell...mmm! Just had it in chicken soup the other night.
I'm not a big fan, but I haven't had a lot of exposure to it; my mother is very allergic, so never cooked anything with it while I was growing up. I do like ground coriander in soups, though, just not necessarily the taste of the fresh herb by itself.
One question: why is it called cilantro in the US? Does any other nation call it that? It's coriander here, and everywhere else I've traveled as well.
I love cilantro! On the contrary, I bought Italian parsley once having mistaken it for cilantro and HATED IT. It is so strong and overpowering, and possibly the only herb I really despise.
loooooove it... when i'm at the public market here in Puebla i just eat a cilantro taco lol... some cilantro, some salt and a tortilla... delicious
Cilantro is an amazing ingredient! It's so distinctive and adds so much to a dish. I think people who don't like cilantro, it tends to be because they eat dishes where the cook added way to much cilantro. It's definitely an herb that packs a punch, so you have to use with discretion. Used properly, it's one of my favorite ingredients!

I love coriander...don't use a heap of it as I cant grow it. My coriander always dies! Probably from lack of watering...
I hate it.
Love, love, love it!! It's especially good in spaghetti sauce...
