Last month, we got acquainted with Burger King's Angry Whopper, a spicy take on the chain's bestselling burger. But as it turns out, the highly anticipated, spicy-hot sandwich available for a limited time only isn't quite as unique as it might seem. Restaurant chains across the country have enhanced their menus with jalapeno-laden specials, hoping consumers' fiery appetites will lead to sizzling sales at the cash register.
In addition to the Angry Whopper, which is available in stores through the end of March, casual chain Red Robin recently unveiled its new Burnin' Love Burger, which includes, among other things, pepper-jack cheese, salsa, and fried jalapenos. Because good things can't last forever, the spicy creation is only around through April 5. Fast-food spicy burgers are nothing new, last year Wendy's aimed for something similar with its Spicy Baconator, a twist on its highly successful Baconator sandwich that included pepper-jack cheese, chipotle ranch sauce, and — what else? — jalapenos. The Spicy Baconator was available across all Wendy's locations in the US, but only for about a month.
Have you noticed any other restaurant chains with peppery new sandwich offerings? Do you think the fact that they're all seemingly limited-edition items makes them more coveted?

I guess I never really thought about it as a new thing...I thought lots of places had spicy burgers before, but maybe I just wasn't paying much attention or something.
1I want one now. I don't care which one, I just want one.
2I'm not a fan of fast food, but I was curious about the Angry Whopper and tried it a few weeks ago. Not bad! But way to big!
3I don't eat fast food so I'm not familiar with this stuff. It's good that they are adding spicier foods to their menus. Funny names though.
4Whataburger has been offering jalapenos as a topping option for ages.
5I went to Five Guys in D.C. for the first time last month and you can get them to throw on some jalapenos and hot sauce! "In-N-Out, are you listening?!" (a la Rick Santelli)
6I had that burnin love burger last night for dinner and it wasn't that spicy, I was majorly disappointed.
7Carl's Jr. has a jalapeno $6 burger that's hard to beat.
8I like to try the spicy burger/sandwich option at most restaurants I frequent.
Everyone wants to offer their take on their "too spicy" burger. I order it, the waitperson says "oh that's REALLLY spicy!" and I tell them "it won't be", and guess what, it never is.
Though at Red Robin, the server came back to check on my evaluation of the spice after I'd had
the Burnin' Love burger.
Someone needs to teach these burger chains what "spice" really is... I think a lot of the problem is that the chains are flinging jalapenos at whatever they can, but they're deseeding them and otherwise molesting them, so they're not as awesome, and on top of that they're drowning the food in them, so then the dish tastes of jalapeno, not tasty spicy dish.
My favorite "spicy" sandwich was the Spicy tendercrisp at BK. That was the best sandwich ever. Then they replaced it with that stupid Firecracker tendercrisp, which was a let down. The four alarm sandwich that Wendy's had, that was more like a damp, smoldering campfire. No fire there.
Even sadder, O'Charley's had some spicy omelet brunch thing, but then they changed their menu. So sad.
Also, have you noticed that every restaurant that does burgers also has some sort of BBQ+onion+cheese burger?
9Pass.
10Dairy Queen has a Jalitos burger - jalapenos cut like french fries that are lightly breaded and fried. They put these on the burger with some sort of chipotle ranch dressing. It was decent... made my mouth tingle a bit but other than that it was too greasy for me. I wouldn't eat another one.
And ikimashokie is right - nothing ever seems to be as spicy as they make it out to be... I love it when the waiter tries to tell me that something's really hot. I haven't found something yet that's too hot to enjoy. I'm the one that orders extra wasabi when I get Sushi. LOL It's not spicy unless you're sweating when you're eating it.
