Cupcakes have been trendy for some time now, and although Publisher's Weekly reports that several new cupcake books are scheduled to hit the shelves this Spring, I'm a little sick of the cute cakes. Over a year ago, I declared French macaroons as the new cupcake and yesterday The New York Times called whoopie pies the baked good of the moment. How do you feel about the matter?

Cupcakes will and have always been the most amazing treat to me! Macaroons are good too but not as fabulous as cupcakes . . .I don't care if it's a craze or trend I will always love cupcakes!
Nope. I will always love Cupcakes. Macaroons are good but hard to make and not as easily decorated!
I love cupcakes (esp. Red Velvet ones!) but I am also a huge fan of whoopie pies!
At a farmer's market run recently I picked up some homemade pumpkin whoopie pies that were divine!
I've never been much of a cupcake person, so it really doesn't bother me either way.. Those frosting colours are so pretty though!
loved cupcakes before the trend, and will after the trend! i love em
How could anyone ever be over cupcakes? They are a traditional baking staple, not some trend!
Will always love my cuppycakes!
How does one become "over" cupcakes. I don't understand. I also just read something (don't remember if it was here or somewher else) that said bacon is "over" as well. Ridiculous.
I just saw a news article in my local paper that a cupcake-only bakery just opened up! I'm so excited. They have all these crazy flavors. For any of you Westchester girls, it's in Pleasantville near the Jacob Burns Film Center.
my apartment is in walking distance from not one but three fantastic cupcake shops in nyc, and i don't think i'll ever get over them. the magnolia buttercream is so good!
Over cupcakes? Never!
Its a slice of heaven, though what's even better are muffins.
Never! I love cupcakes. After the movies on Saturday, I drove 10 minutes out of the way back home just to get cupcakes, I had such a huge craving.
I loved them before the craze hit, and I still do.
There was a craze?
I've never been a big fan of cupcakes (too sweet), but everyone I know loves them. The macaron, on the other hand I LOVE. So light and airy, with the perfect around of crunch. Not to mention they're super cute!
i think that cupcakes will always have their place in everyone's hearts. for myself - i like them, but i just don't eat them. i'm not a cake/sweets person i don't think.
I'm obsessed with cupcakes.
Cupcakes will always hold a special place in my heart.
I refuse to pay anything more than $2 for a freaking cupcake. it's ridiculous that cupcake "bakeries" are charging upwards of $4 for a cupcake when you can buy box mix for the same if not less and make 24 of them. I do understand in some cases like (sprinkles) the cupcakes are made form scratch and what not but still, I'm eating $4 in one fell swoop!
I love cupcakes. I'm baking a batch right now!
I'm over the hip and trendy phase but I still loves me some cupcakes.
I don't ever want to live in a world where one would be looked down upon for eating a cupcake.
or bacon for that matter.
They're tiny cakes...what is there to complain about?
I like them but no more than cake, brownies or any other dessert.
Yes, I'm over cupcakes. All the stuff about them lately, it's like they were just invented or something! C'mon, they're cupcakes! But they're tasty, they're easy to make and a good size for kids. So while I love them, and I'll continue to make and eat them, I'd rather not have to hear about them. And macaroons are delicious!
Maybe it's because I live in the South. I'm been hearing about this 'Cup Cake Craze", but I have yet to experience the frenzy. I guess it'll make it's way to Ga soon.
BTW ... I love cup cakes but I don't get why people are crazy about them. They're only cup cakes!
i love cupcakes & i always will....
These comments crack me up! I freaking love cupcakes. I bought a cupcake courier so that I could make them and send them to work with my hubby. It's fun to be able to decorate each one a little differently, and when you are baking for a really large group it's a great way to control portions so everyone can share. Now that PW is doing fondant cupcakes with Bakerella I'm going to have a lot of baking to do! I will never be over cupcakes.
count me as one of those that didn't know it was a craze! I love my sweets, and especially cupcakes
I love cupcakes because you can make a batch of them to take to work and everyone has their own cake and it's just WAY easier to make/eat than a whole cake. I don't know how I feel about bakeries capitalizing on the whole gourmet/upscale cupcake thing, but if people are willing to pay for them, why not?
Both. I am sick of the cupcake craze and don't think a lot of the cupcakeries will necessarily last, but at the same time, cupcakes will always have a special place in my heart.
LOL--I didn't know there was cupcake craze going on!
lovee cupcakes. never eat them. but will always love them!
i agree, i never knew of a cupcake craze!! but i love cupcakes
Are you out of your mind? It's like saying... "Are you over ice cream craze?" N-E-V-E-R!!
no way, love them!
Now I want cupcakes so bad...
how can anyone ever get sick of cupcakes? they are perfect.
I guess I was never a cupcake person compared to cookies. I don't go for trends as far as baked goods go.
Over cupcakes? NEVER. And I don't really see how a cupcake can be a trend...it's a food and a yummy one at that!
Cupcakes, I just can't quit you...
Cupcakes are a yummy treat and so on, but "trendy" no. Food "trends" amuse and yet annoy me sometimes. JMHO.
cupcakes are amazing. charging/paying $2.00+ for an individual cupcake is not so amazing.
Trendy or not, how can you NOT love cupcakes?
how could i EVER be 'over' cupcakes? i didnt realise it was a trend. i just thought everyone just always loved cupcakes
No- I'll always love cupcakes.
what cupcake craze?
I like cupcakes but am not keen on huge ones or with tonnes of icing and I prefer to make my own. I agree with Yum I don't think cupcakeries will last either. Quite a few in larger city near me, my town is too small for a shop that just sells cupcakes to be sustainable, have closed down.
I prefer cupcakes vs cake but I hope whoopie pies come out in full force! I cant' buy them much around here, not like at home! Mmmm love them!
