Last week, I asked you how you felt about boxed water, the latest fad to hit the beverage market. Although many of you were in support of the company's sustainable business model, just as many said you'd rather turn on the tap. It turns out you're not alone: recent studies indicate that consumers are actually turning their backs on bottled water.
WaterAid, an international water charity, found that 63 percent of people surveyed preferred to order tap water — and the number is skewed in favor of women. Another study by market research firm TNS showed sales of bottled water — which climbed in the 1990s and the early part of this century — actually fell by nine percent last year. I find the concept of people returning to tap to be refreshing.
Circumstances like environmental urgency, economic turmoil, and advanced public water systems have made bottled water, at times, seem extravagant, wasteful, and unnecessary. Do you agree? How often do you reach for a bottle of packaged water?

I do agree with all of those points. I don't buy bottled water at all anymore unless the tap water is unsafe.
1I just got the Brita water filter for the faucet which I absolutely love. I do also keep some bottled water for when I'm going out of the house. But I've definitely decreased my bottled-water consumption lately.
2I don't buy it anymore, I always drink tap water (unless it is unsafe for some reason like hippiecowgirl said). I'll make an exception for road trips, but that's it! I really like the fact that we aren't generating as much trash, even if the bottles are recyclable, and saving money.
3I still buy it
4This is one of my worst vices. I love bottled water.
5Bottled water is great. It's the only water I drink!
6Nalgene.
7I personally don't drink that much water but my husband does and he is deathly afraid of tap water or something...ridiculous because its so wasteful (and pricey!). My boss is actually the same way, nothing but bottled water all day long.
8i love bottled water... I am not a crazy water drinker but I do prefer bottled. I do a TON of other things for the environment... I am allowed to do one bad thing.
9I'll get it if I'm out and really thirsty, but I usually bring my own reusable bottle (or reuse a plastic bottle I've purchased). Mostly I just drink tap water.
10well my fiance has really made an impact on me about this one - and we have a water filter now instead of getting bottles. we always used to go to Costco and get a case of water, and with the amount of waste that you have from the bottles, it's just dumb, so we just refill eco-friendly water bottles at home from our filter
11I haven't bought bottled water in years. I have a Brita pitcher at home because my tap water has a ton of chlorine in it. I have to filter it down some. At work we have a water cooler so I just take my plastic tumbler and refill. I have a plastic bottle with a lanyard and screw on cap for working out. So at least I'm eco-friendly when it comes to this.
12Tap water generally has to adhere to stricter regulations than the bottled water industry. Plus, the SF Bay area has very good tap water. I just refill my re-usable bottle all day.
I have been known to buy liter bottles of sparkling water on occasion, though!
13I have brita on the tap to filter all of my water and it tastes like bottled water! Yum! I don't buy bottled water that much anymore unless I really have to.
14We stopped buying bottled water and started using the filtered water put into a reusable bottle. It just isn't worth all that waste to buy cases of bottled water anymore.
15Bottled Water is such a scam.

I'm glad it's popularity is going down. I have bottled water as part of my emergency supplies, but I don't drink it otherwise. It's purely so that I have it for easy portability in case something happens.
16I never buy bottled water. I have an inline filter in my fridge and we drink the water from there. It's pretty decent and it's free, so you can't really beat that.
17Ok, I know all the cons of bottled water, I know it is a scam as far as being cleaner or safer and all that good stuff - but I can't stop drinking my Aquafina (or Dasani) - it tastes so different from tap, I just hate the way tap (or other bottled brands) taste!
