If you're lucky enough to have a Sonic Drive-In in your neighborhood, then be sure to stop by tomorrow, Thursday, June 7 between 8pm and midnight for a free root beer float (thanks for the tip GirlC). For those of you that can't make it to a Sonic, grab some simple ingredients and treat yourself at home! I found a great recipe for a root beer float with a kick, to check it out just read more
Root Beer Floats
From Bobby Flay
1 pint vanilla ice cream
2 bottles very cold old-fashioned root beer
Splash bourbon, optional
Freshly whipped cream
Place a few scoops of vanilla ice cream into 2 tall chilled float glasses. Pour the root beer and bourbon, if using, over the ice cream and top with a dollop of whipped cream.

I always see Sonic commercials on TV, but there isn't a Sonic within 200 miles of where I live. It drives me crazy because the food and the shakes always look sooooo good.
1Same here, cageyme! Not even one in my state, but they play those all the time! This root beer float looks really good too, by the way...
2these are the times when i wish i was back in Missouri. NJ doesn't have Sonics!!!!!
3Wow, Yum. I was going to make the Clerico for a barbecue this weekend, but you are making me doubt my decision. Perhaps I should have bourbon root beer floats instead. Whole other kind of party.
4I don't have a sonic around me either, and all the food from their commercials sounds soooooo good!
5Oh that looks so good!
6There isn't a Sonic in my state either but the commercials are always on. I really wish there was though because their stuff looks yummy, so does this float!
7I'm very confused as to why Sonic places its commercials in states that they have no locations in!! What kind of crazy marketing is that? Build some freakin' Sonics!
8Yahoo. I love root beer floats!
9bellasugar: whats a bourbon root bear float?
10thanks yumsugar! my fiance is going to be thrilled!
11Yes, it is pretty frustrating to see those commercials when there isn't a Sonic within a 50 mile radius... I've only been lucky enough to enjoy them when I'm on vacation...I can always find one in a very touristy area.. The food is delicious but SUPER high in calories...However, when you're on vacay...who cares?!
12I'm definitely going to Sonic tonight; I hope they don't run out of "supplies" before I get there!
You girls are really missing out! Maybe they're making sure you visit a Sonic when you travel somewhere that does have one...or maybe they want you to open your own franchise
13chancleta - a bourbon root beer float is the recipe above - it's got a "splash" of bourbon added to it, you can determine the splash!
also - regarding sonic, they used to run commercials where i used to live and one didn't open in our area until about a year later! I think they're trying to build brand loyalty before a brand even exists!
14Also, for another kick, try a root beer float with Stoli Vanil. A restaurant near me on South Beach makes Stoli Root Beer Floats and they are sooooooo good that they do deserve those extra o's. You can't taste the alcohol but the vanilla flavoring gives it a nice touch!
15I got one because I've been craving a root beer float. It was small, about 10 oz., but it was yummy! I wish they had diet root beer.
