Recently PartySugar and I got into a discussion about beets. While we both love them, we agreed that they're definitely a point of contention, as many people we know dislike them (our president included). How do you feel about these sweet root vegetables?

Ted Baker
I buy pickled beets for my husband...
1Pickled beets are delicious on chicken burgers.
2I do not like them Sam-I-Am. I will not eat red beets and ham.
3This is one food I just can't stomach.
4Maybe I'm not making them right, but beets tend to gross me out because they taste very dirt-like to me.
5Ick. I like them in one dish only, and it's because you can't taste them AT ALL.
6haha strangel, love it
and LOVE beets!!!!!!!!!!
7Love to eat them. Hate to prepare them.
8Beets are great. I love them pickled or cooked.
9Never had 'em.
10Beets are pretty much the only vegetable I HATE!!! The texture just kills me, those gross icky "rings".
11I tried a beet salad once and the taste and flavor made me gag.
12Hate them not matter how they're prepared.
While I cannot even taste blueberries I can really taste beets. They taste like rubber cement, cigarette ashes and a bit of dirt to me.
I've had them roasted, raw, boiled, steamed - doesn't matter my taste buds and beets do not mix at all.
And truly its no big loss.
13Love them! Roasted beets, peeled and cubed, with parsley, shaved fennel, and gorgonzola, all tossed with a lemon dressing. My favorite.
Or a tiny julienne of raw golden beets and carrots, tossed with a mustardy vinaigrette. The longer it sits, the better it tastes. And no need to heat up the kitchen in the summer.
14Love them!!!!
15love beets in all their forms. my mom makes a delish dish: baked beets & cipollini onions w/a balsamic & olive oil dressing. she usually serves w/a pork tenderloin but i could eat the beets and onions and be perfectly content.
16You can beet 'em in my book! Love, love!
17I used to hate them but that was when I'd only eaten beets from cans. Then I had a fresh, roasted beet and it changed my whole outlook.
18I like pickled beets, but I've never had any other version that I thought was good.
19Those of you who don't like beets, tell me: What is it about them that you can't stand?!
20It's just the flavor Yum. They're so...dirty tasting, but also sort of sweet, like sweet-ish dirt. And the texture combined with that just makes them so unappetizing to me. It's hard to explain. It's like when people ask me why I don't like olives - the only response I can give is "they're just too olivey."
21I personally LOVE them, but I can understand why people would dislike them. They're kind of an acquired taste, but I love the earthiness and the texture. But who says you have to love EVERY single vegetable out there? I don't like okra and I'm pretty sure my body doesn't NEED it to survive.
22i only buy my beets from schrute farms.
23LOOOOOOVE them
24Never had them!
25Gag me with a spoon but do not give me a beet!
26I wish I ate more of them...
27Not a big fan of beets, but recently had an awesome cocktail from a Hotel Phillips, Kansas City, MO...made with beet juice and CooranBong Vodka - beautiful color, pretty tasty too.
28Don't love picked beets, but adore them any other way. I could eat beet salad with goat cheese every day! I am a bit intimdated to cook them myself, though. I hear they can stain everything.
29tlsgirl, that's exactly how I think they taste--like sweetened dirt. I despise them roasted, raw, pickled, or mixed into things (like chocolate cake...that's just the pinnacle of all things evil).
30When I was in kindergarten my preschool had a garden where we got to grow our own beets and I remember they were so delicious and fresh and tasted amazing with butter and salt...
31I have tried them about 4 times recently (store bought) and they just aren't the same!
I wish I could go back to my school and steel some of their amazing beets
