Entertaining at home is one of my favorite activities of all time, but as with all hobbies, it requires lots of thinking ahead and decision-making, from planning a prep schedule to coordinating the menu. In a new series reminiscent of our What Would You Make feature, I'll present a dish and ask you to share what you'd serve alongside it.
Here's the scenario: You've toiled over these individual-sized portions of baked shells and cheese, made with parmesan and sharp white cheddar, for a dinner party that you're hosting. What would you serve to complement the dish? To see what I'd make, read more.
I'd serve the mac and cheese to my guests as part of a Southern-inspired menu. Since this dish is rich and filling, I'd keep the rest of the menu relatively light, serving the shells alongside chili-rubbed pork chops, stewed collard greens, and a seasonally appropriate strawberry-rhubarb crisp. I'd pour a versatile rosé like Banfi Rosa Regale for my guests to enjoy alongside the meal.
What would your menu include?

I love your menu idea!
1I would maybe make a roasted chicken and a simple arugula and tomato salad for the main course and a tarte tatin with vanilla ice cream for dessert .
just cause I'm thinking of this for the weekend.... a grilled kielbasa, or kielbasa and veggie skewers grilled. that smoky flavor with the grilled fresh veggies to pair with that delicious looking cheesiness? works for me!!
2I tend toward meals-in-one-dish so I probably would have added some chicken to the cheesy shells dish in the first place, then serve it with a lighter veggie side dish - roasted asparagus, maybe. And definitely a light dessert - maybe a panna cotta or fruit crisp.
3I'd like to see some breaded cod and wilted spinach with garlic. For dessert a yummy lemon pound cake with lemon curd mixed with whipped cream on top
4You could also go with the "school lunch for adults" menu theme and serve baked flatfish in a nice white wine sauce, steamed broccoli or roasted tomatoes, and carrot cake or rice krispie square.
5I'd pair it with marinated portobellos and steamed broccoli or green beans.
6I have grilling on my mind and would do a new American style meal! I would start with grilled shrimp cocktail. I would serve the mac and cheese with barbecued ribs and a green salad with herbs. For dessert the strawberry shortcake jellies that are in the current issue of MS Living. Now I want to host this dinner party...
7I want the mac and cheese recipe. It looks good.
8That mac and cheese on the picture up there looked so good that I ended up making mac and cheese (with broccoli and cauliflower) and a grilled chicken for dinner tonight. It was delicious.
9Ooh, I like these ideas! To me, this screams "classy, updated soul food"...I'd serve it with a spicy oven-fried chicken, a dandelion salad with a warm bacon viniagrette, cheddar cheese and jalapeno cornbread, and a strawberry shortcake for dessert.
10Long, steamed broccoli spears tossed with nuts, pepper flakes, and seasoning.
For desert grilled fruit topped with chocolate.
11You know me....bacon wrapped dogs!
12id have a rose wine to go with this but id make buttery greens- ie. runner beans, peas and sugar snaps coated in butter and mint herbs, thats popular side grub in England.
13actually mine sounds really dreary compared to the yum comments above, i reckon id much prefer a hefty helping of the southernfried stuff you lot are churning out.
14that sounds pretty heavy to me; personally i would just have a light salad on the side.
