After helping one of my friends with the flowers for her big day, I was asked by another friend to put together the festive napkin rings for her wedding. Rather than waste money on buying 60 rings, we made these flower-inspired pom-poms to adorn each napkin. These pom-poms can easily be customized to suit any color scheme. While mine were for a wedding, the fun napkin rings are great for any special occasion, be it a baby shower, engagement party, or dinner party! To learn how to make them and check out my step-by-step photos, read more.
This idea was adapted from something I saw in Martha Stewart Weddings. To make the pom-poms, you will need colored tissue paper, floral wire, and satin ribbon.
- Cut four sheets of tissue paper into five- by 10-inch rectangles. Make 3/8-inch accordion folds.
- Fold a 18-inch floral wire in half and wrap around the middle of the folded tissue paper and twist.

- Trim ends into a rounded or pointed shape.

- Carefully separate the layers of the tissue papers, pulling each layer toward the center.

- Use the extra wire to make a loop on the back of the pom-pom. Insert a 12-inch piece of ribbon through the loop.

- Tie ribbon around the napkin. Voila: a fabulous flower-like napkin ring to dress up any table!

I thought it was a real flower when I first looked at it.
1These would be perfect for my next dinner party!
2Ahhh I saw these in the magazine or online and wanted to make them, plus the big ones to hang overhead, for my wedding. So pretty! But I don't know if I'll have time. Le sigh.
3Those are adorable, and just like ones I used to make in elementary school! You could also use leftover wrapping paper at the holidays.
4Okay, so you put a bug in my ear last night. And even though it would require making 135 or so of these things, I've decided to try to do it for my wedding. Because they're just to cute and they fit perfectly in my garden wedding theme - floral and colorful and fun! So I went to a craft store and bought all the stuff, and went home and started making them right away. Really easy! And so cute. They come out, amazingly, looking just like the picture. My one critique of your instructions is that you say 18 inches of wire. Martha used the wire to tie it on the napkin, which explains the need for that length, but you're using ribbon (which is much cuter!) but you need much less wire. If you do it with the ribbon, you'll waste at least 10 inches of the 18 inch wire that you cut.
5A wonderful way of dressing up your napkins. I especially like the use of
6satin ribbon to tie up the napkin and/or silverware. I would imagine this idea will really catch on.
Thanks for your post!
absolutely perfect. I am not good at making the bigger ones. so these ones will work just fine!!1 They are beautiful in my colors. Thank you
