I found this scoop & release cookie dropper the other day and immediately balked. While it might seem like a genius idea, I've got a great tip that works just as well. Instead of investing $9 on a cookie dropper, why not spend the same amount on an ice cream scooper instead? I use mine every time I make cookies. It's a great way to come up with uniform drops for even baking, and the perfectly round scoop creates perfectly round cookies, making your cookies look like they came from a professional bakery! Just remember, that a larger scoop size will create a larger cookie, meaning longer baking time. And conversely a smaller scoop will create smaller cookies, meaning a shorter baking time.

In my house we have for years used an ice cream scoop for cookies. Actually our old one got lost and it was like a huge expedition to find a new one that was the perfect size.
Excellent tip!
great.
I totally agree an ice cream scooper is the best tool!
you know i always think of using an ice cream scoop until i get down to making them and i forget!
this is a great tip for people like me that make very uneven cookies that tend to spread out and become connected!
Perfectly round cookies freak me out. They just don't look homemade. I'm weird, I know.
I've been using the ice cream scooper for a while now too.
is it just me or does anyone else roll the cookie dough into balls by hand? sometimes i use two spoons: one to scoop up the dough and the other to help place the dough on the cookie sheet.
me too lala....cooking isn't fun unless you get a bit messy.
I love it. I hate when I make cookies and they are not quite the same size. The cooking time always make me burn them.
p.s Although this idea will not fly with my grandmother who makes the PERFECT round cookie - every time. It's freaky!
I always make drop cookies unless the recipe specifically tells me to roll it into a ball (ie pecan balls).
great tip!
need to try that.
I'll have to try that one!
love it, must not try to remember to buy one
i've used the ice cream scoop before too and love it. I usually forget to use it until almost the end though.
It's another uni-tasker. Definitely go for the scoop.
oh i also forgot...pre-made dough! lol nothing like those little brickettes the cookies come in. and nothing like eating them raw! late-night college snack!
I've been using an ice cream scooper for years to make my cookies. It's so easy and every cookie turns out the same size.
I've been using a small 1" diameter ice cream scoop. It makes perfect sized cookies.
