Whether you're making a strawberry tart or a sweet salsa, you'll probably want to "hull" the berries first. But what exactly does that mean?
Strictly speaking, hulling means removing the green leafy top of the strawberry. Or, you can go a step further and cut away the white flesh that surrounds the stem using the tip of a knife. Everything else — the center of the berry, the rounded top — is left intact. Some people lop off the entire top of the berry, but that isn't necessary and, in my opinion, wastes too much good fruit. You can use a strawberry huller or just a small, sharp knife.

I usually use a grapefruit spoon or a drinking straw. The straws work really well and they waste very little of the fruit.
1wow i love the gadget in the picture--i just said yesterday how i cut off far too much of the fruit! this could prevent that.
2I'm with Happ, I want one. They look like mini screwdrivers that holds all the different ends in the top.
