Last week the San Francisco Chronicle ran an interesting article that discusses the role of music in the commercial kitchen and features the favored playlists of several Bay Area chefs. With so much time spent prepping, it's no surprise that "music cuts through the monotony of the day," according to one chef. Although cooking at home is very different from being in a restaurant kitchen, I too enjoy listening to some groovy tunes. My favorite cooking music is Chambao, a Spanish group whose flamenco fusion is fabulously chill. How about you? What tunes do you listen to while cooking?

Hugo Boss
Calvin Klein

i worked in kitchen that closed recently - but we listened to a lot of citizen cope, reggae, 311, sublime etc etc...
1jazz!
2Retro in the metro...as I was just baking cupcakes for my partners end of the year party in her classroom...my favorite Irish music...Cranberries "Star"!
3stuff I can sing along to!!! Snow White had it right with Whistle While You Work
4Adele.
5I like listening to classical music when I'm cooking or doing housework. It sounds kind of dumb, but when I was a kid, my mom always did a big major housecleaning right around Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter. While we were all pitching to clean and help prep food, my mom always played Handel's "Messiah"...now when I play that while I'm cleaning, I just feel like I'm back home with my family again.
6Spectra, we used to play classical/choir carols around the holidays, I still do it around that time of year!!
7INXS, Depeche Mode, Placebo,
8Spectra: I like classic too!
9I mostly watch TV while I cook. My kitchen is peeeerfectly situated to overlook the living room. I'm not anti-listening-to-music-while-you-cook, but I don't have anything set up to play in there!
10I'm similar to ElizabethRae. My kitchen and living room are situated similarly.
I like to listen/watch the CNN channel.
11I listen to a lot od instumental or classical music. Cleaning dishes the tunes change to rock and indie.
12I enjoy "Chocolate" by Amy Kuney - very appropriate
13I don't. I like to focus on the sounds and fragrances from the cooking. That is my music!
14Because I need my little girl out of the kitchen when I'm doing the cooking I can usually hear a kids show in the background. Otherwise if I'm baking or something while she naps, I enjoy the silence!
15Sam Cooke is relaxing and helps me focus on the task I'm on at the moment, instead of getting carried away and thinking too far ahead.
16I like to listen to audiobooks or podcasts while I cook and clean.
17I cook with the Clash and bake with Janis.
18I just plug my ipod into the stereo and listen to whatever is on that. Something upbeat that I can sing along to usually works.
19I love anything upbeat for cooking, mostly classic rock.
20Examples are Pour some sugar on me by Def Leppard, Down on the Corner by CCR, Sympathy for the Devil by The Rolling Stones or Magic Carpet Ride by Steppenwolf.
Jazz, the Andy Williams Christmas Album and Slayer...lots of Slayer. We are very fortunate to have one of the best jazz stations o=in the country - KUVO - they are my oasis in the city...
21Jazz on a Sunday afternoon cooking is the best!
22Sadly, I don't have a stereo...so, I cook in silence! Or to the music of a sizzling pan!
