While selecting in-season strawberries at Whole Foods the other day, an unfamiliar brewski, Samuel Smith Strawberry Ale, caught my eye. Since I was surrounded by the delicate aroma of ripe berries, I couldn't resist picking up a bottle.
I was curious about the unfamiliar label, and couldn't wait to give Samuel Smith's signature strawberry beer a taste. Brewed in Stamford, England, this certified organic ale, which is made with fresh strawberry juice, only became available stateside this year. The ale has a floral, jammy bouquet that brought me right back to sniffing strawberries at the market and notes of caramel and malt to finish. It was so refreshing that I drained the hefty-sized bottle, then proceeded to trek out and pick up a fresh one.
At $5.99 for 550 ml, this seasonal sip has become my favorite nightcap so far this Summer. Have you ever tried strawberry beer?

mmm I love fruity beers they can be so fun! I will def. try this
1I can attest to the great-tasting strawberry beer. Too bad it doesn't come in a six pack of 12-oz bottles. As the only option, the 27-ouncer can be a bit much for some to take down in one sitting.
2Samuel Smith's is a fantastic brewery. I'm not surprised that they even do fruit beers well.
3I love pretty much anything from Samuel Smith! Will definitely try this soon!
4Abita has a strawberry beer that my dad says is amazing. It's on my list to try, but we haven't gotten it yet!
5Whole Foods also sells Abita Seasonal Strawberry Ale, which is absolutely fabulous. I highly, highly recommend this one. Actually, I highly recommend all Abita beers.
6After reading this, my boyfriend and i went straight to Whole foods. He was skeptical, even though i told him you had to go back for another bottle. we went home and tried this and omg ! it was delicious, he was trying to get the last drops out of the bottle, he was kicking himself we didn't get two bottles!!! thanks for the tip on this yummy beer
7alcook87 - glad you liked it. That's exactly how I felt!
8I went to the Whole Foods in Union Square and no luck. Should I even bother going to the one on Columbus Circle?
