The other day, Party asked me how I feel about eating foods that I can't identify. Since I've often found myself at food events that serve an overwhelming number of complicated bites, I do it all the time. But despite the fact that I've eaten lots of random (and unidentified) foods, there are still scores of foods I've always wanted to try but have never gotten around to sampling. Although some New York gourmands claim poutine is becoming routine, I've never had a chance to try it, so it's at the top of my list. And I've also always wanted to try belon oysters, black pudding, blowfish, boudin sausage, and wagyu beef from Kobe, Japan.

So funny that you mention poutine! I just tried it for the first time last weekend when I was in Vancouver. Not my favorite thing but it was tasty and I can see how it would be a great drunk food. I have always wanted to try a date shake. I heard about them somewhere in SoCal.

Poutine a Canadian fav! Every time I get back to Ottawa I HAVE to get some! It's the BEST in the winter when you have been tromping in the snow or skating on the canal all day! Yummie!

6I've always wanted to try Kobe beef, just to see what's so special about it. I've also always wanted to just at least taste a durian. I know I'd probably think it's really nasty, but I'm SO curious about what they smell like and taste like!
7hmm. i have never really thought of stuff i'd like to try (food wise, I could rattle off a bunch of wines I'd like to try).
But i do think of places I'd like to go to try the food there... Kyoto was a big one on the list and Jamaica. Would like to go to Vietnam for the food. And glad I am going to New Mexico this weekend so i can have some good burritos with green chili!
8Mmm poutine. I'm from Canada so this is kinda a guilty pleasure for me. Even better sometimes, Newfie fries (from Newfoundland). It's french fries with gravy and stuffing. I would love to try Kobe beef, and truffles, and fried chicken from down south.
9kobe beef is amazing. i don't even usually like beef, but kobe is yummy. forgot to to the poutine when i was in canada last month

12I ate at Chick-Fil-A for the first time ever two weeks ago and it was a dream come true.
13I'm a New Zealander, so most of my food-wants are things that I keep seeing on US food blogs!
I really want to try Quorn "chicken" fillets, Cinnamon and Raisin Gnu Bars, pizza from both Chicago and New York, American-style frozen yoghurt (although I'll never call it
"fro-yo", sorry!), Godiva chocolate, anything on the menu at the Candle vegan restaurant, and Kashi cereal and waffles.
What a gourmet, huh?
14Mmmmmm boudin!
I recommend smoked boudin. It's the best! I get it when I go home and keep it in the freezer. It's easy to just steam and eat.
If you can have it sent to you, try Market Basket in Lake Charles, LA. It's so popular that it often sells out before 11am! They also have award winning king cakes that they ship cross country, so maybe they'll ship their boudin too!
I really want to try alternative sushi from Guy Fieri. Regular sushi makes my skin crawl, but his variations look delish!
15Poutine is an acquired taste, I think. Im not totally turned off by it, but it doesnt ring my bell, you know?
Black pudding is for the brave. The taste is fine, but the texture is definitely not for everyone and I think makes it the most difficult part of this food. *Do you eat blood sausages though?
Which brings me to boudin sausage - there's straight boudin, and boudin noir - blood sausage. I prefer it in a creole type recipe, its pretty tasty.
As for wagyu beef ie: Its fabulous and you'll love it.
For whoever said they wanted to try durian - brave soul you are. That crap is banned in certain areas in asia because of the foul smell it emits when opened. I also know that there are actually fines for bringing durian into hotels because the smell is impossible to get rid of. Fines can be anywhere from $200USD and upwards just for cleaning fees. That stuff is monstrous.
16i have soooo much to add to this list. ive only ever had indian, arab, italian, american and chinese food so pretty much everything else goes on the list lol.
17Durian is delicious! I work in a food lab and we got the fruit in to try and match the flavor. We had to split it under a fume hood so it wouldn't contamnate everything. The pay off was there.
I want to try the poutine now.
I have had blood sausage and it isn't terrible. I have no desire to try it again but...
18There's an area in my city that has late nite food carts and I want to try something from each of them!
19Truthfully, there's nothing I want to try. I live in a major metropolis area, and there's a lot of diverse food available. Big foodie culture around here.
20I had poutine on a cold rainy day once in Montreal and I highly recommend you eat poutine on a day like that.
I guess I sort of want to try one of those horrific deep-fried sweets you hear about at fairs, like a twinkie or snickers bar
21You should try the poutine at Salt House. Not sure how authentic it is, but it's tastes amazing!
22I'm not very adventurous when it comes to food so I usually stick to standard fare.
23I agree will Zulkey and would like to try a deep-fried chocolate bar but the few times I have seen them about, the look just completely turns me off.
I live in Miami and I've yet to eat shark... I'm dying to try it. Also, frog legs and iguana tail (yeah I know thats an odd one).
24I've always wanted to try poutine. I can't imagine what cheese curd tastes like but with gravy and fries nothing can be bad.
I always wanted to try an aged steak in an expensive steakhouse. I can't imagine why they are so much better than a regular steak but I'm too cheap to end the curiousity. Anyone ever taste the difference?
Also, I have to try a Tony Luke's cheesesteak. I am from Philly and had all the others, yet I never got there and it is suppose to be the best. (The other well known one's really aren't the best that can be had in Philly, they're all hype.)
25Black pudding is like a sausage but its blood mixed with other stuff to create the texture/taste. I agree with Mrsld, it's disgusting. And the fact that it is made out of blood was such a put off.

I tried jellyfish the other day. It was such a strange taste, like noodles but really chewy. I guess exactly what you think jellyfish would taste like.
26I haven't had lobster, I don't know where to go to eat it here. Maybe....Red Lobsters? Hmmm.
27I've never tried squid ink pasta, and I've heard not good things, but I'd like to try it anyway. I might be turned off at black pasta but I'll at least give it a taste.
I don't eat meat so I guess I'm limited in adventurous things to try, but otherwise I'm pretty open and have already had lots of different things thanks to being raised by immigrant parents. I didn't know frozen pizza existed til i was in HS!
28Crawfish. I've never had them.
29truffles (one day, when I'm rich), I want to eat an entire artichoke for once instead of the hearts, deep fried sweets like a twinkie or oreo, and crab stuffed fish
30I'm from DC and I've tried almost everything I've wanted to, and some things I didn't. I haven't had raw oysters though.... cooked, yes. I'm trying to get up the courage and the process takes several months.
