UPDATE: This story has been updated to avoid any potential spoilers.
Top Chef Masters is only in week two, but there is already talk of the grand prize winner. Last week in her Yummy Letter newsletter, Grace Ann Walden, a longtime food journalist based in San Francisco, claims to announce the winner. To see what she had to say, warning possible spoiler alert, read more.
In the newsletter Walden states:
SPOILER ALERT: If you don’t want to know who wins, close your eyes or shut off the computer! We got the word just before press time that Rick Bayless, owner of Frontera Grill and Topolobampo, both in Chicago, and various Frontera Frescos in Macy’s around the country, is the winner.
Although Walden does not reveal her sources, in this week's newsletter, she accounts a conversation with Bravo's PR company. Apparently a representative from FerenComm, the firm that represents the show, asked why she would publish the winner? Walden's response: "Because I am in the news business and it is news." While Walden's claims could just be speculation, if Bravo has approached her there may be truth to them.
What do you think about the matter? Could Rick Bayless go all the way?

Lacoste
Ooh his recipes from his show "Mexico, one plate at a time" always look so wonderful! I love that he wanders out to his garden filled with gigantic herb plants to gather a lot of the spices he needs for his dishes
1I love Rick Bayless! He's wonderful! But I hate that I might already know who wins "Top Chef: Masters!" It's not news yet, why didn't Walden wait until the end? Jerk.
2I usually hate people who cry "Spoiler!! OMFG you ruined my show!"
but...
Considering only one episode has aired, and the second one is tonight, perhaps hiding the pic and the bulk of the post behind the jump?
kthxbai
3Ugh man! Thanks for ruining it.
4I agree with above posters...no spoiler alert here??? Maybe not everyone wanted to see that and there wasn't really a choice in the matter!
5i'm going to take this information with a grain of salt. often we get spoilers that aren't the truth - so we'll see. based on how the show is set up - it doesn't really keep you from watching.
6I heart Rick Bayless! His show is always so creative. But if he's really the winner, why would someone want to ruin it? I'll take it with a grain of salt.
7I can't believe that top Chef would let this info get out.
8The producer and going to be in hot water!
I don't appreciate that you posted this spoiler loud and clear. There are other ways to attract readers. Even if this is a rumor, I do not find this entry delightful. I am going to unsubscribe to your feed now.
9Leslie, I'm with you. I typically get annoyed when people whine, but this really annoyed me. It's not as if if has already aired and I was waiting to watch it on my DVR or something; the show has aired ONCE.
Yum, what's the point of putting "SPOILER ALERT" within the piece when you have, "Is Rick Bayless the Winner of Top Chef Masters?" as the title?
10this sux. there was absoulutely no spoiler alert.
11Oops, Party, not Yum! I don't want to be angry with the wrong person.
12The show's not that exciting, so there's no spoiler for me. I will be watching though.
13you're killing me- if Walden had the sense to issue a spoiler alert even if she went on to share the news, shouldn't you have done the same? Amber has a point- the show lacks the excitement of the original, but still a little heads up would've been nice.
14Hey guys, I don't know if Walden is right. In the story I write, "While Walden's claims could just be speculation," I don't know if it's true. I'm asking your opinion of it!
15I don't care if the claims could be speculation. I still think this is a major spoiler. The claims also could be true.
16i agree with all the posters, this information shouldve been posted after the jump. that is really annoying. although im not following it with the passion that i would with regualr TC i was still following it
17don't watch the show so I don't care.. but WOOHOO if he did win. Love him!
18SO ANNOYING!!!!
Why in the world would you post the picture???????????
Thanks for ruining it, I'm so mad at you Party
19I just refreshed my blog reader and got your old spoiler-filled post. What the hell?
Watching a show wondering if the jerk who is spreading spoiler rumors is correct is nowhere near as fun as watching a show where you know nothing.
If this is how this blog plans to operate, I will be unsubscribing. I think many of us would appreciate some blog post updating us as to what exactly your policy on spoilers actually is. Because if you truly consider stuff like this:
Hey guys, I don't know if Walden is right. In the story I write, "While Walden's claims could just be speculation," I don't know if it's true. I'm asking your opinion of it!
to not be a spoiler of some kind, especially after details of Bravo's intervention into the rumor, I want no part of this place.
20i would love for hubert keller to win, but would be excited if it were bayless too. i am loving top chef masters - its exciting to see wonderful chefs cook delicious looking food!
21I hope Walden chokes on her next meal, or loses her sense of taste. She defines douchebag and her justification BS is appalling. And the sh*t trickles downstream, to this blog and others. Shame on you all.
22Sounds like a publicity stunt on the part of the journalist (who I've never heard of before now, so I guess it's sort of working).
23Are you kidding? YOU SPOIL THE SERIES IN YOUR TITLE, PHOTO, and TEXT?? What the hell were you updating/editing that gave it away even more clearly. This is really, really annoying. Seriously, I wish I could say something to make you feel as bad as I do about this, but I can only hope you have the basic decency to feel regret.
24Bad form Yumsugar.
That's not at all how to handle a spoiler post. Whether you changed the format or not, the damage has been done to those that pick feeds up in an rss reader, where the original headline & picture still come in.
Kudos on being the first to 'break' a story, pissing off your readers, and losing some of them. Yeesh.
25While we're on topic, I'm Kaiser Soze.
26With a title like "Has the Winner of Top Chef Masters Been Revealed" I don't understand the problem if you managed to read this so-called spoiler. It's purely speculation at this point, however, Rick is far and away a more talented chef then the others. I've been watching the show and figured he would be the eventual winner.
We were at a wine dinner in April at Topolo and he started talking up the show and just as he started to possibly give away some tidbit (probably not the winner)...one of his staff stepped in to shut him up.
He's a really great guy and deserves to win.
27Diver, the original title was, "Is Rick Bayless the winner of Top Chef Masters."
28Yup this is true. A gennin of mine works at the Frontera grill and Rick flew out a couple weeks ago at the Finals in California and im pretty sure he won but he hasnt said it. My gennin is the best source there is.....
