In the interest of living a healthier lifestyle, I've been trying to cut out my habit of late-night snacking. Unfortunately, it hasn't gone so well, as that's my favorite time of the day to snack. And the fact that Doritos sent me a bag of special-edition Late Night Tacos at Midnight? That doesn't make it any easier, either.
These chips are intense: each triangular bite is densely covered in a blizzard of burnt orange powder and flecked with black spices. Upon first trying them, I wasn't too crazy about their seemingly artificial taste. They had a flavor that I couldn't pin down — but by the 15th chip or so, I'd figured it out. To find out what they taste like, keep reading.
You know that premade taco seasoning mix that you stir into ground beef for ultrafast tacos? These chips taste exactly like that. And contrary to my initial statement, the next day, for some inexplicable reason, I couldn't stop reaching for them. "When they first hit your mouth, they taste artificial, but the aftertaste leaves you wanting more," Party commented when she tried them.
Although the MSG in them made me incredibly thirsty, I couldn't help but agree: they wouldn't be bad with pico de gallo, guacamole, or a creamy salsa dip. The conclusion? If you're too drunk to drive to Taco Bell at 2 a.m., these chips will definitely hit the spot! Have you spotted them at the supermarket? Do they sound like something you'd eat when you're drunk?

I used to love Doritos but I now try to stay away from MSG as much as I can. It gives me horrible headaches.
1I bought these a few weeks ago. When I opened the bag they smelled just like taco meat. I rather liked them. Nice change from the usual Cool Ranch and original Doritos.
2I saw a commercial for these and at first, I thought it was a joke! They have MSG in them? Guess I won't be trying them.

Yes - this would be PERFECT for after a night of drinking. MSG be damned - bring 'em on.

13I couldn't care less about MSG, it doesn't bother me one bit! I'd totally eat these, especially with guacamole and sour cream. I may pick up a bag tonight, it is National Tequila Day after all!!!
14have you tried the late night jalepeno popper flavor? awesome! they actually taste like jalepeno poppers, it's almost weird, but too delicious.
15Oh man. Those things just beg to be wrapped in bacon and deep fried.
16I actually like the Cool Ranch Doritos, but I've been curious about trying the other new flavors. I'm not a huge fan of taco seasoning in the package though. I may try them, but I think I'll probably end up sticking with the Cool Ranch.

18The flavor does taste like that taco seasoning, but the flavor is supposed to emulate the 2 for 99c tacos at jack in the box. Pretty darn close, in my opinion.
19I love me some Doritos, but they need to kill this flavor. Never got over the "premade taco seasoning mix." And the name just screams, "I don't even care what I'm putting in my mouth."
