I'm still not sure what I think about the whole cutesy cake pan trend, but I think it's pretty safe to say that it's here to stay. This time whimsical fun is presented in the shape of an octopus. The octopus cake pan is made from heat-responsive cast-aluminum by NordicWare (who is probably the undisputed champ of whimsical cake pans) and is exclusively available at Williams-Sonoma for $38. Now I think this would be a great cake for a child's birthday party (or perhaps a marine-biologist), however I have a problem pony-ing up $40 for something I might use once or twice. What do you guys think? Octopus Cake Pan, love it or hate it?

I think its cute.
I love it, saw it in the WS catalog yesterday
I love it, in that it's an adorable idea. But I'm with you, Yu, I hate the idea of spending $40 on something that I'll use maybe twice.
I think if I owned this, all my cakes would be octopi, and people would just have to deal. Totally adorable!
I love it! and I would lend it to people. It would be great at a Luau or an Under the Sea party. People have those all the time...or maybe I just know too many people who have themed parties...OK, OK, maybe I just have too many themed parties...
oooo wow i totally love it! ITS SOOO CUTE BUT MMMMMMM im not sure if i could get it to look the same way? haha
Oh, what a whimsical, adorable cake! I love the Smartees. But I absolutely agree that $40 is ridiculous. I think half the price would make it much more practical.
I love anything octopus-related, so it's a definite love!
This is really cute. If it wasnt so expensive I would definitely buy it.
I think it is totally adorable, but it would only take up space in my kitchen after I used it a couple times. Love it, but definitely not worth the dough.
That is amazing, hahaha!!
its cute if you lke octupuses..i dont.
Of course I love it!!
I love it!
You'd think you'd never use it more than once, but my household owns a Hulk Hogan cake pan that we use all the time. It's our signature cake!
That would definetly be a conversation starter! Cute!
Haha that's so cute- and would be fun to eat!
I think this is cute!!
This is too cute! We should sell this at our stores in the Monterey Bay Aquarium!!
i love this! my mom used to use cake pans all the time. in fact, she used the same Strawberry Shortcake (the character) pan for my 6th and 18th birthdays!
Haha I think it's cute...probably wouldn't end up using it too often though!
I think that it is cute but not very practical, however I did buy tht beehive one for my mom for mother's day which i think something one might use more than an octupus
It's cute! Great for a children's cake.
Love it, that cake is so freaking adorable!
Thats really cute!
I ABSOLUTELY adore this... I neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed it.
gimmie.
How sweettt...I must say I always loved american cakes and sweets...they are so good!!I miss them a lot!!oooh, I love the carrot cake..the pumpin cake AND THE APPLE PIE..ñuum!haha
I think it's cute!! Keep an eye out in the store or the catalog .. by the end of the summer, I bet it's on sale for half price.
It's cute but not very practical. The only "shaped pan" I have is an animal crackers pan by Wilton - they give you a bunch of different ideas to make different animals from it (a reindeer, panda, cat, etc.).
It's great if you're a professional cake decorator. I'm not, so that's a no go.
Besides, didn't we go through the cute cake tin phase in the 80s already?
Its really cute, but the batter would cok so unevenly. All the humps and ridges would be so dry by the time the base started finishing.
Cutest thing there is. Love it.
love it - great for a child's birthday!
It's so cute but I have such a hard time just frosting normal cakes...I don't think I have the patience to decorate the thing every single time!
It's great for my scuba diving relatives. It would be cool to decorate in different designs and colors. $40 is high, but it's probably better quality than the Wilton pans.
Are shaped pans a trend? I didn't know they ever went away.
It's weird
Actually funny
But i think i'd like to try it
cute.
a must have.
HOW AWESOME! What other fun cake pans are there??
It's so cute that even my mom loved it.
I could never make it look as good as that picture, but for a themed party it would be fantastic. And fun to try!
it's cute but i know that i would only use it once, AND it's forty dollars? yeah, i'd totally bum that off someone first.
I lucked out and found this pan for only ten bucks on the clearance table at our local store. Even nicer I had a gift cert. so it cost me nothing. I put the cake on a bed of blue rice crispy treats, then use gel to make starfish.
