I have never worked in the food business but my friends and family have and so I know what they have dealt with when it comes to tips. So I try my best to tip well.

I feel so bad for servers, most of whom have no health care benefits at all, yet work so hard. But if they're jerks, they get nothing. Sorry. I've had a few nasties in my time, but not recently...

10%, but only if I order food or we have a lot of drinks. Here in Spain tipping isn't really a big thing.

I give what people deserve. If the service was acceptable they get the 20%. However if they are really bad and I mean they have to be completely rude and negligent then they get nothing.

I know that if I'm treated amazingly, I tip accordingly over 25% percent. However, if I'm in a fancy place and I get sh*t service, you better belive i'm tipping sh*t (around 10-15%), although most of the nice places with sh*t service have a tipping minimum, then I leave it at the minimum.

I tip great. I was a bartender and a waitress for years and I know who it is. Remember if you get something for free tip MORE! They are hooking you up!

I always tip well, but will tip extra well if the server is really great. I've had a few God-awful experiences, though (not me being a b*tch--I get that sometimes service will be slow--but if the server is outright rude, then forget it), and have left a reduced tip as a result.

I always tip 20% because 10% is too little and my brain gets tired figuring out 15%.

I usually double the tax.

i found it easy to just tip the tax... and if you go half on it with friends, you both just round up whatever the tax is..

I usually tip 18-20% if the service was good, and 15% if the service was just tolerable. I've only walked out once without leaving tip, and it was because not only was the waitress a complete b*tch, but she ignored us practically the whole time and slammed my friend's drink down on the table.

I always tip 20%, unless they really F-ed up then I will still tip 15%. Once when I used to be a server, I got a 7 cent tip. It's because they thought a side of guacamole was too expensive. Like I set the prices!!! @ssholes.

i'll tip minimum 10%, and that has to be for like really crappy service. but normally twice tax, so about 17% in CA, or higher. more, if it's really good service, like 20% - 25%

I worked in a restaurant in college (I quit a year ago) and let me tell you...depending on whether or not the restaurant is part of a chain, we basically have no base salary. I made $1.88 an hour, which translated to zero dollars in my paychecks (everything went to taxes). Thus, servers like me LIVED on tips. PLEASE tip your servers well- I definitely understand giving a low tip if your server is surly or neglectful, but if you have a nice, polite server, please always give 20%. The extra dollar or two you tack onto your tip might not seem like a lot, but it can go a long way towards making your server not have a nervous breakdown in the backroom!

I worked as a bartender and waitress for a long time, so I always tip very well. I'll tip 15-20% for mediocre service and well over 25% for excellent service. But you better believe that if I have a problem I will not hesitate to complain to management!

I waitress and my biggest pet peeve is when I get people that tip like crap, you are recieving a service that is not included in the meal and should tip according. Its 20% across the board...no excuses . IM tired of bending over backwards for rude people and getting tipped 10% sometimes less sometimes slightly more. Some people have the attitude(ive had friends I have wanted to strangle that think this way) "well dont be a server" well my answer to that is- if there were no servers your lazy butt wouldnt be getting your food, and every place would be like Mcdonalds. PLus trust me Servers rememeber your face if u tip like crap and come back ( even if its not the same waitress) you will recieve crappy service-everyone in this business talks ...because quite frankly if you tip crappy and you recieved great service you deserve it. If people cant afford to tip you cant afford to go out, plain and simple so thats not an excuse as well. People who have worked in the industry understand, I think there should be some sort of class everyone has to take in HS or college that makes everyone work in the restuarant world...maybe that would make it so people wake up and stop being so d*mn rude to there servers. I mean dont get me wrong if you get down right mean rude service fine...tip less but really how often does that happen...people love to look for reasons -any stupid reason- to tip less. Like some poor waitress who has the dining room all to herself and gets 7 tables all at once, shes not giving bad service on purpose( although people will stil take it out on the waitress) its managments fault which then the server has nothing to do with...I guess my point is people should really think before they decide to tip crappy.

I tip 15%, if the server is horrible maybe a bit less, if they are just plain rude and idotic i will talk to the manager, On the other hand if the service was impecable than i will go higher on the tip. BIGGEST PET PEEVE with servers, if they come to get my order and SIT DOWN next to me, like they know me...I HATE THAT>

My husband worked as a waiter for awhile and we both like to be generous. I give about 15% for lousy service, about 20% for mediocre to average, and 25% or more for good service. My husband used to get 100% tips as a waiter sometimes, and I've always wanted to give one of those, but haven't quite had the right experience yet.

I love to tip at least 20% for excellent service, but I have to tell you that it has to be earned. So many servers that I have encountered at restaurants just assume now that bare minimum service at the table deserves high tips. Many I have encountered say hi (but seem to busy to really care), take your order, bring it (sometimes it's not even them), then drop the tab. If you're not going to check on me to see if I need anything, or at least refill my drink, then I have nothing but 10-15% to give, if that. Working in the service industry, I know that it isn't that hard to put on a smile and cater to people, even if you're having a bad day, customers don't know that, and most of all customers don't care. They want to get great service, that's why they dine out to begin with.

I've always wished that people would only be aloud to patronize restaurants and bars if they worked in the service industry first. Otherwise they don't know how tough it really is. Sometimes it's hard to keep your head up when there are so many people who tip unacceptably. 15% is MINIMUM unless it is crap service. And don't think that people don't remember you when you tip crap- there's a reason that you're service remains mediocre at best when you're a frequent customer tipping sh*te.

20%. If the service was rude/poor - 10% maybe, or whatever I care to leave. If the service was outstanding - 30% and up. There's no excuse for rude service. If you are having a bad day, suck it up. You have to in every other profession - except perhaps the recluse evil mad scientist...but even then, her research for that day will be f*d! XD

I never tip below 15%, and I've been known to tip 50%. In one of my speaking classes, one of the girls talked about tip share for one of her projects, and it made me feel horrible for anyone who ever stiffed a server. I couldn't imagine every working as a server or a host, and I'm glad there are brave souls out there who are doing that. If it weren't for them, who would be getting your food and cleaning up after the rude kids who eat sugar packets and patiently wait for your party of 20 to order?
