From drinking less bottled water to making more educated seafood choices, I've been all about adopting a greener lifestyle. But simple as it sounds, the one thing I could never quite nail down was bringing reusable totebags to the grocery store.
Every Sunday, without fail, I'd pull into my local Trader Joe's, and catch the "Don't forget to bring your reusable bags!" sign in the parking lot, only to realize that I'd left all of my totebags at home. After repeating this mistake too many times to count, I finally collected all of my market totes and put them in the trunk of my car. Now, I have an array of bag sizes that come in handy not just for my weekly groceries, but also for takeout, dinner party leftovers, and anything else you can imagine.
Where do you keep your reusable bags, so you don't forget them?

Most of the grocery stores we go to place all of the cardboard boxes the products come in at the check-out for you to take your groceries home in. At home here we do have re-usable tote bags that we keep by the door if we are just going for a few things or walking
I have a set of Envirosax which all roll up and fit into a neat little pouch. I keep them in my glove box.
I keep mine in the closet by the door and I grab them right before I go to the store. I have forgotten them on occasion, though, so I'm going to start keeping them in the trunk from now on.
I keep mine hooked on the front door handle to remember to take them out to my car where they usually live in the back seat. I also have a little window cling from Publix on my windshield to help me remember to grab my bags. It's really cute!
Check out the Chico Bag. You just stuff it into a little attached pocket and throw it in your purse! It's genius and you'll never forget your bag again!
I have hookfuls of bags next to the door for trader joe, co-op, and general grocery shopping
When I am done unloading my weekly dose of bacon and dogs.......the bags go on the laundry room floor so I have to walk on them on my way to the machines in the garage!
I used to always forget my reusable bag(s)- I'd leave them at home or in the trunk of the car and be at the cashier before I would remember that I didn't have them with me. I found this company called Bagnesia and they have a clever system with great remminders to help you every step of the way- it even comes with it's own compact reusable bag that I keep in my purse for unexpected trips to the drug store or mall and it helps me remember all of my other bags too. Their website is www.bagnesia.com Check it out
I keep mine in the trunk. There always there when I'm at a store.
I keep mine in the trunk too, though when I use them and they're all in the house I have to make a concious effort to get them back into the car. I hate going to the grocery store without my reusable bags.
I have envirosax too, always rolled up in my purse.
i keep them in my car but still manage to forget them. only when i'm bagging my groceries into plastic, yet again, do i remember. my grocery store could use one of those reminder signs in it's parking lot...
This is a great tip, I always forget my bags!
I keep them in my trunk. After I've unloaded the bags in the house, I hang them on the inside of the door to the garage so I remember to throw them in the car the next time I leave.
I'd just like to point out that it's entirely possible to still forget the reusable bags in your car about 50% of the time when you go shopping =P
I would love the reminder signs I have yet to remember the bags until I am loading my plastic bags on top of the reusable in the trunk.
This is smart, I have no clue why it didn't occur to me lol. I tend to leave them at home too. Then I see the bags at the counter and go "darn!"
However, I've been living green forever, before it got "cool." My parents always encouraged us to waste not, want not. Every light turned off when not in use, everything re-used to the last bit. As for the plastic bags, I re-use them too so I don't feel as bad for forgetting the tote.
This is going to sound like a silly comment but where did you get the totes that says "I
"I (heart) Lamb"
I have 3 of them on a carabiner clip that I got while I was at the BlogHer convention last week. They all fold into a little pouch and become the size of your fist. This way, when I'm done unloading the groceries in my kitchen, I just toss them back into my purse and then back into my glove compartment.
bento barista, I got that from the American Lamb Board in Aspen!
DeviousMuse's product - the mini-bag with clip is a great way to keep it nearby. Simply Green Solutions offers fold 'n' snap bags to fit in your purse or pocket too. It's just gonna take time for these good green habits to sink and we'll remember sooner or later.
I use to keep one just in case I dropped by the flea mall and bought a little something. They're also good for when I babysit and go pass the park.
