Over the weekend, my guy and I were enjoying a salmon fillet with soy glaze that we'd made together for dinner, when he got a small pin bone stuck in his throat. I told him I had the perfect solution for his problem, and it wasn't the water he was pounding. Instead, I brought him a soft piece of bread.
When a fish bone gets lodged in your passageways, the best remedy, I've found, is a small chunk of bread — it surrounds the bone, helping to move it down. Of course, if you have serious, persistent pain, seek medical help. You don't, after all, want to wind to wake up weeks later, like a Taiwanese woman did, with a pointed object piercing the side of your neck!

SO GROSS about that lady!!! yuck!!!!
1I tend to eat a lot of fish [like the rest of my family ... I guess it's a Bangladeshi thing], and my mom always insists on eating loads of plain white rice to get the bone unstuck. It's probably because cooked white rice is readily available in our house.
2you could avoid the problem by not eating fish
but if you have to, try chewing your
food lol
3This happened to me when I was a kid and my mom tried rice and bread to dislodge it but it didn't work. So she gave me some of my brother's leftover birthday cake...I must have eaten 1/3 of the cake before the bone moved.
My brother was SOOOOO pissed that I ate his cake! And it was delicious!! Hehehe
4eww & ouch
5this works for popcorn kernels that get stuck in your throat too!
6Rice and bread definitely work. You just need to form either of them into a small ball and they get rid of any stuck bones.
7No wonder I avoid most fish all together!
8Ow, that sounds painful. I'm kind of glad I don't regularly eat fish now!
9this is why I'm so particular about what I eat. I never eat popcorn, and I only eat certain types of fish.
10My grandfather always kept some vinegar on the table when he made fish. One quick swig and the vinegar dissolves the bone, but I don't think I could handle drinking straight vinegar.
11That fish looks so good. I'm used to eating fish with bones so I don't have those kind of mishaps.
12KKKKKKKKK....................KKKKKKKKKKKKKK................KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
13yea... this is why I stopped eating fish years ago. I know I am missing out on some major nutrition but the scales, bones, and smell is enough to never want me to glance twice at a fish dish.
14LOL chiefdishwash!!! I think that's exactly the sound you make when you have a bone stuck in your throat.
15@bengalspice: heh, my Bangladesh roommate just told me like last week that his family used to make him do this when he got a fish bone stuck in his throat.
16i can't stand those itty bitty pin bones! that's my lovely tilapia is going to waste in the freezer.
