I've had ox tongue and ox tail.. but havent tried escargot.. i probobly would given the cirucumstances. the most unusual of foods are actually quite good.
I had escargot for the first time last night (it was Bastille Day, after all) and it was delicious! It was much better than I expected and I loved it! I didn't have any issues with the
texture, which surprised me more than anything.
oxtails are soooo yummy when cooked for a few hours because the meat will just fall off the bone. try it in soup or a red wine stew and its to die for!
haze1nut - i totally agree, i dont' think either of these are freaky (or many on that list either), but when I talk to non-fellow foodies, their reactions are definitely ick!
I've had both, and I personally think that both dishes are delicious. I'm chinese, so oxtail stew is a homestyle dish that my mum makes (mostly in the winter). Plus, since I live in Canada,
many fancy restaurants that I've frequented in Quebec (well of course other provinces serve escargot, but gotta go to the best!)serve escargots as an amazing appetizer! Yum
It's things like this that make me glad I'm a vegetarian. I once lived next door to a barbeque place who's main attraction was...pig snouts! People came from all over the area to eat a snoot
sandwich at this place. I don't really get that...wouldn't it be crunchy and boogery?
jessbear, i hope you're joking about the boogery part because of course all the items would be cleaned before eating. just like you would have to wash your veggies before eating, the same is
done for meats and such.
as for escargots and oxtail - both are delish! oxtail really does taste just like beef so it's not really unusual (aside from its name) but escargot for some may be texture-new. i'm asian so
i'm exposed to lots of out-of-the-ordinary culinary tastes...
I would try both if given the chance, I'm sure. I'm a vegetarian, however I'm sickingly obsessed with france and escargot is up on my list of things to try before I die.
campbells used to make oxtail soup in a can, it was my grandmother's favorite before she passed away.
pinkflats - a lot of folks are just not very adventurous when it comes to food. one of my old college pals wouldn't eat anything she found the tiniest bit "weird" - she ordered the same food
each time and if she hadn't had it before she didn't want to try it. Surprisingly there are a lot of people like her, they're just scared of things I guess.
pnai_foxxx - this wasn't meant to be insulting, just a would you rather. last week we did a would you rather eat ice cream sandwiches or
sundaes - we're always curious to see what people would like to try!
personally i love both oxtail and escargot and am not sure which I would order. I think it would have to depend on my mood that day. or maybe I would have to do like arthur suggests and order
both!
I don't eat red meat anymore, but my dad made ox tails for dinner a number of years ago and had my brother and me try them without telling us what they were. I thought the meat was very tasty
and not weird at all, so I was shocked when he said they were oxtails.
Oxtails.
Hands down.
I've had both, but Oxtail is better.
A friend of my mom is jamican and his family has a special recipe for Oxtails. OMG. THE. BEST. EVERRRRRRR!!!!!
amazing and out of this world. My mom has begged him for the reciepe, but he always says no and he'd make it for us....
I've had Oxtail in other places but none nearly like his.
The worst part about all of this is my mom and he lost touch and now I'm left craving Oxtails.
Yum: NOT FAIR !!!
My mommy makes the most fantastic ox-tail barley soup. It has become the comfort food of everyone in my family (with the exception of my veggie sister)!
I've had oxtail and love it .... not sure if I can get past the escargot mindset thing. But I can eat sushi and other seafood ... mussels are basically the equivalent of snails. I'd probably
eat escargot over edible bugs though.

This soup ends up being a good source of three blood pressure-lowering minerals since the milk adds calcium and the potatoes deliver a dose of potassium, as well as magnesium.
both are YUMMY!! of course, the escargot takes a lil getting used to..especially with the texture
1I've never had escargot, but oxtails are the same general thing as beef. There's really no difference.

19I feel ill......
20I've never had escargot but I'd be willing to try it, but as for oxtail, it really is just like regular beef but yummier!! I love me some oxtail stew.
21I've had escargot (and loved it) and would try oxtails without hesitation.

25i guess i'm immune to the freakiness levels of certain food bc i'm a foodie
oxtails are soooo yummy when cooked for a few hours because the meat will just fall off the bone. try it in soup or a red wine stew and its to die for!
26I'm southern so oxtails are not a big deal, my grandma made a stew that was heaven. I wouldn't mind trying escargot.
27haze1nut - i totally agree, i dont' think either of these are freaky (or many on that list either), but when I talk to non-fellow foodies, their reactions are definitely ick!

29ummm i don't really see anything wrong with them. i've far worse. who were these non-fellow foodies you talked to yumsugar?
30eaten far worse*
31uh, this question is SO insulting. oxtail is part of my culture/national dish. im so disappointed in you, yumsugar.
